The 49ers have arguably the best talent from 1-53 in the NFL. Last year Colin Kaepernick wowed everyone with his legs and this year he’ll have to do it with his arm. Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb say they’re both ready to roll, but both have only played two snaps in the preseason and the early rust with Aaron Rodgers will show. Eddie Lacy won’t get many running lanes vs. the stingy San Francisco defense, and left tackle David Bakhitari will have his hands full with four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Justin Smith.

This is going to be one hell of a tough game. After being flat out embarrassed in the playoffs last year, the Packers have something to prove. The 49ers do as well-as defending NFC champs they will have a target on their backs the entire season. Not having Casey Hayward is going to hurt. And cross your fingers that Morgan Burnett can go today. If he can’t, the defense might be in bend as far as possible and hopefully don’t break mode. It won’t be easy, but somehow the Packers will find a way to pull out a win.

This team is nobody’s underdog.  17 of the team’s 22 starters have seen a seen both a Super Bowl championship and a 15-1 season.  The 49ers are just as beat up as the Packers (this is rare) and when all things are equal I’m not going to bet against Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy when they’re operating with a chip on their shoulder.

The Packers have spent all offseason preparing for the 49ers and their read option offense that embarrassed them eight months ago. The Packers have improved on both sides of the ball, but unfortunately the 49ers are just on a different level at this point. Rodgers and company will be able to put up points against a banged up 49ers defense, and the defense will not give up 600 yards again, but the 49ers are the better team right now and playing at home. Kaepernick leads a late drive to give the 49ers an opening day victory.
