Analysis: Ted Thompson has had a lot of luck selecting wide receivers in the 2nd round, and he goes back to well one more time, selecting Fresno State’s Devante Adams. Adam’s was incredibly productive at Fresno State, catching 233 passes for 3,031 yards over the last 2 years to go along with a remarkable 38 touchdowns!
Adams didn’t wow anyone with his 4.56 40 time at the combine, but his 39” vertical leap was one of best put up by a wide receiver.  And despite having small hands, he is surprisingly sure handed.  His ability to make plays and avoid tacklers once the ball is in his hands should serve him well in the NFL.
How does he fit with the Packers? I think he fits in perfectly.  Adams will immediately compete with Jarret Boykin for the #3 receiver role and his addition allows the Packers to confidently run their 4 WR sets again.  As discussed he is a James Jones clone with (in my opinion) a higher upside.  Davante could absolutely be a #1 WR in this league and he just got drafted ot the perfect team to be one.  Adams is absolutely a staring caliber player, but as a redshirt sophomore should not be counted on to do too much.
NFL Comparison: James Jones- Adams should be a touchdown machine in the NFL with his ability to track the ball over either shoulder just like former Packer James Jones. However, Adams probably has more upside than Jones.  He is a perfect fit for Green Bay’s system .
Adams isn’t a blazer but has more than enough speed to gain separation and get over the top of the defense. Also, despite not having track star speed he is good after the catch. Jones is also tough to bring down in the open field. Another similarity between the two is that they both can get sloppy in their route running.
