RAS is fairly new to the NFL and it has played a part in the Packers’ draft strategy for the last couple of years now. RAS stands for relative athletic score, and it is calculated using a players’ combine results in comparison to other players at their position. I chose to do a mock draft on FanSpeak.com using Matt Miller’s big board on the difficulty setting.

Every player I drafted was selected based on a combination of the three: best player available, need, and RAS score in the “elite” range (8.0 or above out of 10.0).

There was also a trade involved where the Cleveland Browns offered me their 2nd round, 49th overall and 3rd round, 80th overall for my 2nd round, 44th overall.

Brian Burns (OLB) – RAS score: 9.91

Burns has been one of my draft crushes for quite some time. I got some flack early on for suggesting the Packers take him at 12 overall, but after the combine and weighing in above 240 lbs, Burns has put himself into top 10 consideration.

TJ Hockenson (TE) – RAS score: 9.15

Hockenson seems to be forgotten after his teammate and fellow TE Noah Fant put up an RAS of 9.89 at the combine, but Hockenson is still TE1 for me. He is truly the total package at tight end and I am personally tired of Green Bay trying to address the TE position in free agency. It is unlikely that Hockenson will last to pick 30, but I won’t complain if he is there come draft day.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (S) – RAS score: 8.06

CGJ found himself just slightly over the elite threshold with an 8.06, but regardless of his RAS score, CGJ is still worthy of a top 50 pick. I expect the Gutekunst and the Packers to go after one of the many available free agent safeties, but CGJ would be an instant upgrade over anything they currently have on the roster.

Connor McGovern (OG) – RAS score: 9.7

McGovern didn’t run the 40 but still tested well in the 3-cone drill and other areas. After an inconsistent and poor year at guard, Green Bay looks to bulk up at a position of need with McGovern. There are a few free agent options at guard, but most of which would just be a temporary fix while McGovern looks to be the future at RG.

Max Scharping (OT) – RAS score: 8.78

Scharping is a Green Bay native, so bringing him home would be both great for him as well at the future of the RT position. Bulaga is a very good RT but this is the final year of his contract. Scharping would be able to sit behind Bulaga in an emergency backup role and learn before being thrown into the fire.

Andy Isabella (WR) – RAS: 8.41

Isabella ran a TERRIBLE 40 time before NFL Network announced that they were having problems with their timers. Isabella’s official 40 time was a 4.31, putting him at the top of the WR class. With Cobb likely to walk in free agency, Isabella is a true slot guy that could make an impact on day one and even surprise some guys with his top end speed.

Khalen Saunders (DL) – RAS score: 8.61

Emanuel Hall (WR) – RAS score: 9.92

Drew Sample (TE) – RAS score: 8.68

Blake Cashman (LB) – RAS score: 9.55
