Many prognosticators have already presented in depth analysis of the Packers NFL draft signees, many of which have already placed their signature on a contract. Most agree it takes 2 to 3 years to see how a player will perform. I feel like it was a successful draft, with a balance between BAP and need.

I will dive into the UDFA, which over the past years Green Bay has one of the higher chances on someone earning a spot on the 53 man roster or Practice Squad. You may notice these names of previous UDFA’s who made the roster, Cullen Jenkins, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields and Ryan Grant.

Here is your 2019 class of UDFA’s:

QB Manny Wilkins, Arizona State, 6′ 3″, 200 LBS, 8,624 yds., 52 TD’s, 23 INT’s with a 63.2% completion rate. Wilkins also rushed for 20 TD’s. He just may be the type of player who can compete for the back up to Aaron Rodgers.

LB Curtis Bolton, Oklahoma, 6′ 1″ 220 LBS, 2018 = 139 Tackles, 12 TFL, 4.5 Sacks. According to his Bio, he played ILB, ranked 22nd in the nation with 9.9 TPG. Bolton may provide an inside presence next to Blake Martinez.

WR Matthew Eaton, Iowa State, 6’4″, 209 LBS. Eaton has the size and speed very similar to the 2nd year WR’s that he will be competing against. I’m assuming that’s what prompted the Packers to sign him.

WR Kabion Ento, Colorado, 6’3″, 190 LBS. The Packers seem to have designs of Ento at CB and ST’s. He will follow the path of Sam Shields who was a WR at Miami.

CB Javion Hamilton, Ole Miss, 5′ 10″, 177 LBS. Hamilton may find himself competing for a spot on Special Teams or the Practice Squad. His stats don’t jump out at you and he appears to lack size.

TE Davis Koppenhaver, Duke, 6′ 4″, 245 LBS, Career Stats = 49 Rec, 431 yds., 12 TDs. Played all 4 yrs, 41 games. Could be a nice target and earn a spot on the Practice Squad.

OT Yosh Nijman, Virginia Tech, 6′ 7″, 314 LBs. Nijman played in 45 games, with 22 games being consecutive and at LT. He could become the back up or heir to David Bakhtiari in the future.

LB Randy Ramsey, Arkansas, 6′ 3″, 238 LBS. Ramsey had 32 tackles, 7 TFL, and 3 sacks in 2018. He was known as a quick accelerator off the edge. He could find a nice spot on Special Teams or the Practice Squad.

LB Greg Roberts Jr, 6′ 5″, 258 LBs, Baylor. Roberts recorded 81 career tackles, 15.5 TFL, 3 Sacks, 2 Fumbles, 2 Blocked FGs. His Father played in the NFL and was the Outland Trophy winner in 1978. Again, Special Teams or Practice Squad.

CB Nydair Rouse, West Chester, 5′ 11″, 188 LBs. Rouse played in 45 games over 4 yrs with 78 Tackles, 21 PD, 9.5 TFL, 8 INT, 3 FF, and 2 Sacks. He appears to possess skills to be a pretty good CB. Due to his lack of big time competition he may have difficulty with the transition to the NFL.

OG Larry Williams, Oklahoma State, 6′ 4″, 322 LBs, has experience at both Left and Right Guard. His OSU Cowboy Offense ranked in the Top 15 Nationally in several categories. Williams could develop into a nice back up for the interior line of the Packers.

Matt LaFleur and his Packer coaching staff are getting a good look at evaluating these players at Rookie Camp this weekend. Plus the Packers have 20 invitees including RB Taiwan Deal University of Wisconsin Badgers on a “Try Out” basis. After Sunday many of these young men will have their dream ended and others will attempt to move on to an opportunity with a different team. As I mentioned earlier the Packers do have a history of signing a few players from their Rookie Camp to continue on to Training Camp, ultimately making the final roster. It will be very interesting to see who emerges this weekend still wearing the Green and Gold.

As Always, Go Pack Go
