On Monday, May 13th, Brian Gutekunst signed the teams second round pick, guard Elgton Jenkins. This now leaves only 1 unsigned draft pick remaining and 89 of 90 spots filled on the roster.

Elgton Jenkins was the teams 44th selection out of Mississippi State. During his time at Mississippi State he played in 49 games over his four seasons. He made 34 starts, including 26 at center; which means he can play multiple positions along the offensive line. He is expected to compete with guards Billy Tuner and Cole Madison for the starting position on the right side of the line.

The team was in need of offensive line help this offseason. It’s a position where they have needed to restock the cupboard. Tackle Bryan Bulaga is entering his final year f his contract and their are question marks at the guard position. Drafting Jenkins could help solidify the right guard spot for not only the upcoming season but also for the future. Jenkins has week 1 starting ability.

There is one connection on the Packers coaching staff to Elgton Jenkins. New Packers quarterbacks coach, Luke Getsy was Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator last season. He knows Jenkins well, so there is familiarity between the two.

Protecting Aaron Rodgers is a must for this team to be successful. The only remaining unsigned draft pick is tight end Jace Sternberger.
