The Jacksonville Jaguars ended up hiring Greg Olson as their new offensive coordinator to replace the fired Jedd Fisch, but many fans wondered if all the names of the candidates were made public. Van Pelt was drafted in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft and ended up spending over a decade in the NFL, primarily as a backup quarterback with the Buffalo Bills. He got into coaching in the old NFL Europe before taking a job as an offensive assistant with the Buffalo Bills.
Van Pelt has spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, first as a running backs coach and then as the quarterbacks coach this past season. As La Canfora mentions, Van Pelt seemed to be a hot name on the market as multiple teams were blocked from interviewing him.
