As is always the case ahead of a new season, there is a lot of optimism among Packers fans that this year could be a great campaign. Green Bay go in search of their fourth straight NFC North title, but the ultimate goal will be far greater than that.
Here is a look at the roster and four players who could be set for a big season in their green and gold jerseys.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been named the NFL’s regular season MVP in each of the last two years. He goes into the latest campaign looking to complete a hat-trick. Brett Favre, one of the greatest QBs in Packers history, was the last player in the league to achieve that, he did so between 1995 and 1997.
Just like Tom Brady, age does not seem to be slowing Rodgers down. If anything, he is using all the years of experience he has in the league to good effect. He is 38 years old going into the 2022 season and he remains one of the elite players in the NFL.
Rodgers’ recent contract extension shows he is committed to the franchise. All reports from Green Bay’s training camp suggest the future Hall of Famer is as sharp as he has ever been.
As of the 17th of August, the Packers are +1200 in the online betting to win the Super Bowl in February. If Rodgers shows the same level of form as he has in 2020 and 2021, Green Bay are going to be one of the leading contenders for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Aaron Jones
Running back Aaron Jones led the league in touchdowns for a running back in 2019. Although he was a key part of the offense in 2020 and 2021, his numbers dropped a little.
With Davante Adams’ departure to the Las Vegas Raiders, expect to see Green Bay vary their offense in 2022, with Jones rushing the ball much more than he did last season. This will take the pressure off Rodgers’ shoulders.
As well as an excellent rusher, Jones can also act as a very capable receiver. He scored six receiving touchdowns last season. The dual-threat RB will be in his sixth campaign in the NFL, and he could be set for his best year yet for the Packers.
Sammy Watkins
The Packers added to the offense in the offseason with the signing of Sammy Watkins on a one-year deal following the conclusion of his contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The experienced WR will be an extra pair of hands for Rodgers to throw to in 2022.

Watkins is approaching 100 games in this NFL, and he has already scored 34 touchdowns. The 29-year-old will be relishing the chance to add to his tally now he is on the same team as Rodgers. The former fourth overall pick is a Super Bowl winner, so he arrives at Lambeau Field knowing what it takes to go all the way in the league. He looks to be one of the smarter signings made prior to this season by any
Jarran Reed
Defensive end Jarran Reed was part of the great Seattle Seahawks defense which ruled the league between 2016 and 2020. He was picked up by Seattle in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Reed is a player who is used to reaching the postseason. He has made the playoffs in all but one season since he arrived in the league. In 2021, he helped the Kansas City Chiefs reach the AFC Championship Game, where they were beaten by the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 29-year-old has signed just a one-year contract with Green Bay so he will be motivated to earn a longer deal with the franchise. He also has incentives built into his contract this season which he will be keen to ensure he activates.
Reed could be the last piece of the jigsaw needed for the Packers’ defense to be a really big success in 2022. He is a leader on the pitch which means he will also be demanding the best from every player around him.
Green Bay’s first game of the season comes against the Minnesota Vikings on September 11 at the U.S. Bank Stadium.
