Sunday’s, 22-10 loss in the Wild Card round to the Philadelphia Eagles brought an end to the Packers 2024 season.

While the Packers had a good regular season with an 11-6 record, the Packers struggled against top tier teams.

That showed against the Eagles, who finished the regular season at 14-3.

It was the same mistakes and problems the Packers had in those six losses that showed up last Sunday.

Here are 3 takeaways from Sunday’s Wild Card round loss.

1. Another slow start for the Packers

Another game and yet again, another slow start for the Packers.

Matt LeFleur and the Packers wanted to set the tone against the Eagles after slow starts against the Bears and Vikings.

But they did anything but that.

Keisean Nixon fumbled the opening kickoff, which set the Eagles up in good field position.

The Eagles took advantage and scored with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson.

The offense struggled to move the ball down the field, and Jordan Love threw 2 interceptions in the first half.

Add to that a missed field goal by Brandon McManus and the Packers went into halftime with nothing to show for on the scoreboard.

2. Injuries piled up for the Packers

During Sunday’s Wild Card loss, it seemed like the injuries were piling up for the Packers.

On the Packers second possession, Elgton Jenkins injured his shoulder and didn’t come back into the game.

The injury affected the Packers offense as Jenkins is a key part of the Packers pass protection and run blocking.

Rookie tackle Travis Glover replaced Jenkins but struggled as he was called for 3 holding penalties in the first half.

Glover was then replaced by former undrafted free agent Kadeem Telfort.

Furthermore, the Packers had 2 injuries at Wide Receiver.

Romeo Doubs left the game in the 2nd half with a concussion, his second one this season.

Jayden Reed left the game also in the 2nd half with a shoulder injury.

That left the Packers with only 3 healthy Wide Receivers.

Two more starters left the game in the 2nd half and didn’t return.

Linebacker Quay Walker and Center Josh Meyers both left the game with unspecified injuries.

3. The Defense did what it could

For all the struggles the offense had putting points on the board , the defense did its part in the first half.

In what should’ve been a bigger lead for the Eagles, the defense only allowed 10 points, resulting in a 10-0 halftime score.

But for as long as they could’ve held the Eagles, things started to break down in the second half.

With the Packers only down by 7 and needing another stop on defense the Eagles drove 68 yards in five plays for a touchdown to make it 16-3.

Then with the Packers down by 16-10, the Eagles drove 63 yards in 13 plays for a field goal to make it 19-10.

During the drive, the Eagles took 7½ minutes off the clock.

That left the Packers in a time crunch to mount a comeback.

By the end of the game, Saquon Barkley topped 100 yards with 119 on 25 carries, and QB Jalen Hurts had a passer rating of 111.4.

Conclusion

The loss stings a little for Packers fans, who hopped for a long playoff run.

But the slow start, along with the injuries during the loss to the Eagles were simply too much for the Packers to overcome in the Wild Card loss.

Remember, this team is still one of the youngest teams in the NFL.

It was noticeable after the game, during the postgame interviews, this team is hungry and will use this as a learning experience.

With a few more Free Agent acquisitions and a good draft, the Packers can improve on their 11-6 record from this year.
