Earlier this week, the Packers resigned RB Chris Brooks to a 2-year $4.85 million dollar extension. Brooks, who was a restricted free agent, has served as the Packers pass blocking running back and the usual go-to option on third down. Chris Brooks is also a top special teamer for Green Bay. With uncertainty surrounding the Packers #2 running back, it made sense to keep Brooks in town. Brooks will be back for his third season as a Packer in 2026.

Chris Brooks partner in crime, Emanuel Wilson, is a restricted free agent as well. It is unclear if Wilson will be back in Green Bay. Wilson certainly provided a spark the past two seasons when spelling Josh Jacobs. Wilson ran for 2 touchdowns and 107 yards in a Packers win over the Vikings. The Packers are desperate to see what 2024 third round pick MarShawn Lloyd can do but he cannot catch a break with injuries. As a result, the Packers opted to resign a reliable component in their offensive backfield.

Unlike Aaron Jones, Josh Jacobs is not the best pass blocking running back. Although, Jacobs has improved since arriving in Green Bay. As a result, Brooks has an attribute that the rest of the running back room does not. On top of his ability to block, Brooks has given the Packers a spark or two in both the passing game and the rushing attack. He gives the Packers a solid back up option. However, expect Green Bay to continue to look for a definite number 2 rusher.

The Packers Special Teams Will Be Revamped

Packers

The Packers officially have a new Special Teams Coordinator. The Packers hired Cameron Achord late last week, shortly after Rich Bisaccia decided to step down. Achord will be tasked with improving a unit that seems to have struggled for decades in Green Bay. Personal is a critical piece to the special teams puzzle so the resigning of Chris Brooks gives Achord an experienced piece.

Brooks recorded 230 special teams snaps in 2025. He led the Green Bay special teams with 14 tackles on kickoffs and punts in 2025. That skillset is another reason why the Packers opted to resign Brooks. It is easy to appreciate the flashy, star players like Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, Micah Parsons, etc. but the Packers front office and coaching staff know that players like Chris Brooks are extremely critical elements to the team’s success.

As of right now, it seems that Brooks is the only Packer free agent who the team has resigned. The legal tampering period of the NFL Free Agency is set to start on March 9th. Essentially, starting Monday, news will begin to break of who is signing where. It seems more and more unlikely that the Packers will resign Rasheed Walker, Quay Walker, and Romeo Doubs.
