Through his four years in Green Bay Christian Watson has had his ups and downs.
Coming from a small college, Watson was drafted fairly high in the 2022 draft.
His career got off to what may say was a disaster of a start.
But Watson fought back, and while it took him some time to get accustom to the offense, by the end of the season, you knew he was capable of being a #1 WR.
From 2023 -2024 Watson struggled to stay on the field battling multiple injuries.
Hamstring injuries and issues forced Watson to miss multiple games.
Then in 2024, when it looked like Watson was getting healthy, he tore his ACL ending his 2024 season.
Missing the first part of the 2025 season, Watson came back strong with 35 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns.
While the Packers signed Watson to a one year extension last year, he was looking for a long term deal.
Last week the Packers gave that to Watson signing a 4-year 110.5 million dollar extension.
While most Packers fans were happy about the extension, some questioned it.
Which brings up the question, was this the right move for the Packers?
The answer

Some questioned the extension because of how reliable Christian Watson is.
When on the field he is a game changer, and the production and numbers when he is one the field is evident.
But the key word is, when on the field.
Some questioned, why pay someone who can’t stay on the field?
Watson has yet to play a full season, with the most game being played in 2024(15).
But his ability make plays when he is on the field and the way the offense operates when he is on the field was more than enough to give the Packers a reason to extend him.
In his career Watson has shown to be a game breaker, someone who can change the game instantly.
Furthermore, his speed cannot be thought or matched, along with his size for being a WR.
While his numbers don’t show someone who is a number 1 receiver, its the things listed above that make him special.
With 20 career TDs and over 2,000 yards as a Packer, it was the right move for the team.
Why was it the right move?

The move keeps Jordan Love’s core of receivers intact.
While Love lost Romeo Doubs to Free agency and Dontayvion Wicks to a trade, keeping Christian Watson was the next best thing for Love.
The two have been able to work together since Watson arrived in Green Bay.
It only makes sense also too as Jayden Reed signed an extension earlier this off-season.
With both Watson and Reed, it gives Love a pair of WRs he has chemistry with.
Along with Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, who are heading into their 2nd years, this keeps Love “core” of WR intact.
Barring any injury or retirement, Love will not have to worry about his WRs for a few years.
