Week 3 of the season and Green Bay has proved they might be one of the worst teams in the league. The 0-2 Atlanta Falcons came to town and crushed the Packers 35-14. Let’s dive into the Thursday Night Football Disaster as the Packers fall to 1-2.
The Falcons came into this gave having not found the endzone since the first quarter of week one against the Steelers. Last night, the Falcons scored 35 points with two huge games from their two best plays.
Falcons Running back Bijan Robinson carried the ball 29 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Yikes. Additionally, backup running back Brian Robinson Jr. carried the ball 10 times for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Robinson had more yards at the half than Green Bay’s offense. Big yikes. This was Green Bay’s first home opener loss in 13 years. Even bigger yikes.
Additionally, Wide receiver Drake London caught nine passes for 194 yards. The Packers defense had no answer. To make matters worse, the offense had no answer either.
The offense was a disaster. Jordan Love was pressured on 25 of his 55 drop backs according to Pro Football Focus. Love managed to complete 28 of his 53 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns.
The offensive line gave the Packers no chance on offense. Plays were busted before they even started as Love had no time to even let the play develop. With an offensive line that cannot block means that the run game also suffered.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd carried the ball four times for just 11 yards. While Kaleb Johnson carried the four times for six yards. So, what does a lack of run game do? It forces your quarterback to have to throw the ball even when the line is not in any shape to block for him.
The only bright spot on the day was the Packers wide receivers. Matthew Golden led the way yesterday with five receptions for 100 yards and his first regular season touchdown. Christian Watson was not far behind with seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Golden seems to be finding his groove and has been becoming more involved every game this season. Truly one of the only things that have been good about the Packers.
So, where does that leave this team? The Packers now have a mini bye week and will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have yet to win a game, next Sunday. Following that game, the Packers are set to face the Bears, Cowboys and Lions.
The Packers cannot magically reconstruct their offensive line. The defense somehow forgot how to stop the run. There’s a lot the coaching staff and players have to figure out if there is any hope in turning this season around.
