Focusing in on Free Agency:

As free agency approaches the Green Bay Packers look to be a threat to land several key players. Now that the likes of Richard Sherman and Ziggy Ansah are off the board the Packers must shift their attention to other players to fill the needs on their roster.

Areas of the team need to be addressed in free agency:

1. The secondary
2. Edge rushers
3. Tight End
4. Depth at offensive line
5. Wide Receiver

Dave’s Free Agent Board Version 2.0

1. CB Trumaine Johnson:

Oakland is said to be the front runner to land Johnson but Green Bay is not far behind. With the recent departure of Damarious Randall, Johnson would be a welcomed addition and a huge upgrade at a position that the Packers struggled with mightily last season.

2. DT Mohammed Wilkerson:

Wilkerson is a high risk high reward player due to character issues but had his best seasons in the NFL under the coaching of Mike Pettine. The comfortability that Wilkerson has in Mike Pettine’s system would allow him to flourish and Green Bay and give him an opportunity at earning another big contract.

3. WR Allen Robinson:

Robinson is coming off of a torn ACL and is young enough to rebound from the injury and have a productive season in 2018. Before his injury, Robinson was known for his play making ability down field. He will be a welcome addition to the Packers wide receiving core and can be secured with a short term deal with less of a financial commitment attached to him.

4. DE Adrian Clayborn:

Despite having the majority of his sacks against Tyron Smith’s back up Clayborn is still a player who can reap the benefits of playing with a strong defensive front and alongside Clay Matthews and Nick Perry.

5. CB Tramon Williams:

Re-signing Tramon Williams would provide depth to a position that the Packers desperately need help at. Williams had a productive season in Arizona last season and clearly has more years of productive football left in the tank. Williams familiarity with the Packers organization will make this a seamless transition and his locker room presence and veteran leadership will help younger players like Josh Jones and Kevin King develop into players that the Packers can rely on for years to come.

Other Players to consider:
1. Will Beatty
2. Julius Peppers
3. Tyler Eifert
4. Jimmy Graham
5. Sammy Watkins

Final Thoughts:

It will be interesting to see how the Packers address their needs during Free Agency, as there are many different directions that they can choose to go in. Brian Gutekunst needs to make a splash with his first Free Agent class as general manager to indicate that a change is culture is occurring in Green Bay. These potential free agent signees address areas of need on the Packers roster and can be attained with the financial resources that the Packers have going into Free Agency this year.

Stayed tuned for Thursday’s article when I give my opinion on the Packers Free Agent signings.
