With everything going on in the world right now, and sports leagues trying to figure out how to start but have not been able to firm anything up. With the current events in America, many people are left with a lot of worry and anxiety. So, any type of Packers news right now is a welcome distraction.
On Monday, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst was hard at work as he announced the signing of the teams 2020 6th round draft pick, guard Simon Stepaniak, to his rookie deal.
The Packers selected the 6’4″ 313 pound, Stepaniak with the 209th selection in the 2020 NFL draft out of the University of Indiana. He started 31 games over 4 years at Indiana and was a full time starter at guard the past two years.
He impressed scouts at the combine with his strength. He has very strong hands. Most scouts are projecting Stepaniak to be a rotational offensive lineman and could fill in at either guard position.
The contract is believed to be valued at $3.45 million over four years and has a signing bonus of $150,000. Cap experts are predicting a cap number of around $648,000 for the rookie season for Stepaniak.
The team has now signed 3 of their draft picks, Stepaniak, Jonathan Garvin and Vernon Scott. It appears that Brian Gutekunst and Russ Ball started at the back of their draft class and maybe working their way up in signing their picks. We will see if that trend continues and if so, we could be seeing some more signings this week and next.
