Having played just over half of their 2020 NFL games, the Green Bay Packers are off to a solid 7-3-0 start. The Packers recorded 3-1-0 at Lambeau Field and 4-2-0 on the road, meaning they are yet to play five home games in their schedule. These games should give them a bigger edge during the second half of the season.

2020 Packers Midseason Awards

  1. Most Valuable Player – Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has had a strong start this year, having thrown 29 touchdowns in 10 games and has thrown only four interceptions. Rodgers currently boasts the second-highest quarterback rating of his career, only second to his 2011 MVP season. He also seems more confident and comfortable with Matt LaFleur’s offense during his second season with the current head coach.

  1. Biggest Disappointment: Preston Smith

While 2019 was a great career year for Smith, his decline in play this year is a huge disappointment for the Green Bay Packers. Smith recorded 12 quarterback sacks in 2019, with 11 tackles for loss, 56 total tackles, and 23 quarterback hits. Unfortunately, Smith has only recorded 26 total tackles during the first ten games of the 2020 season.

Smith has shown signs of improvement over the last several games, making some key stops and adding flashes of pass rushes. However, it’s unlikely that he’ll approach his 2019 numbers, though a strong performance in the second half would be highly valuable to the Packers’ defense.

  1. Rookie of the Year: Krys Barnes

There aren’t a lot of athletes to consider in this category, considering that first-round draft Jordan Love wasn’t expected to play many games, and he hasn’t participated in any. The second-round choice AJ Dillon has limited snaps on the offense, and Josiah Deguara has been injured. On the other hand, linebacker Kamal Martin has only played a few games and has just recently come off the a reserve list.

Inside linebacker Krys Barnes may be the best rookie on the Packers squad, and he has proven to be an excellent surprise this year. The undrafted rookie was an unexpected addition to the Packers’ roster.

  1. Defensive MVP: Jaire Alexander

Jaire Alexander has chosen to take his game to the next level this season, making him among the game’s best elite cover corners. Alexander is known for shutting down some of the best receivers this season, as he’s rarely defeated in coverage. He’s also a confident player, with elite speed and amazing skills that scare opposing teams from throwing the ball towards his direction.

  1. Most Improved Player: Robert Tonyan

When the packers released Jimmy Graham after two disappointing seasons, they weren’t sure what they’d get in the tight end position this year. Robert Tonyan stepped up and built his reputation as the best receiving tight end on the team. As a result, Tonyan has recorded 32 catches for 391 yards, and six touchdown passes.
