Ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst held a press conference on Monday afternoon.
Primarily meant for reporters to ask questions about the upcoming draft on Thursday, Gutekunst had to have known that talk of the quarterback position would undoubtedly come up.
So when questions were asked about MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his future in green and yellow, Gutekunst didn’t miss a beat with his answer.
“Aaron’s our guy. He’s going to be our quarterback for the foreseeable future,” Gutekunst said. “We’re excited about the things we’re going to try and accomplish here over the next couple of years.”
Eat your heart out click-baiters.
Although Rodgers has hinted at the uncertainty of his future in Titletown in the past, Gutekunst doesn’t seem phased about that, or the fact that Rodgers and the team have been unable to come to a contract extension or restructure.
Now, this could be a ploy meant to get the media and fans to quiet down about Rodgers. After all, Gutekunst was at the head of the table when the Packers selected Rodgers’ heir-apparent Jordan Love with their first round draft pick in 2020.
Or – and this could be wild to some of you out there – he could actually mean what he says.
“We had to do a lot of things (with contracts) to bring guys back this year and we’ll have to do that again,” Gutekunst continued. “So we’re not done by any means yet, and we are working through that with a number of our players, including Aaron.”
Listen, to me it sounds like Gutekunst knows how dumb he would be if he indicated that he is planning on getting rid of a quarterback who just had possibly the best season of his career and led the team to another NFC Championship game.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has also stated a very similar sentiment in the past.
So maybe we should all just calm down, take a chill pill and start believing them.
To quote the great Aaron Rodgers himself, R-E-L-A-X.——————
