Analysis

The Packers selected Florida DT Tedarrell “TJ” Slaton in the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Slaton played all 4 of his collegiate seasons in the SEC with the Florida Gators. He’s a very big human, who stands at 6’5 and 340 pounds. In 2020, Slaton had 37 tackles, 3.5 TFL’s and 1.5 Sacks. In his career, he tallied 98 tackles, 8.5 TFL’s and 3.5 sacks. He started all 11 games in both his Junior and Senior Seasons with the Gators.

Team Fit

It’s no secret that the Packers are thinking ahead with their selection of Slaton. Packers DT Kenny Clark should remain in Green Bay for a while after signing an extension that keeps him in Green Bay through 2024. However, it’s unlikely that the Packers will have DE’s Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster on the team after the 2021 season. The remaining lineman on the roster is Kingsley Keke and not much else. The Packers not only need bodies on the defensive front but players who can be effective and make an impact moving forward.
