Vital Matchups Packers Must Dominate to Tame Bears in Week 6

The Packers took ten years off their fans lives in the process of pushing their win streak to four games. What’s lost in the Kicking woes of both teams is that the defense of the Packers is rounding into form. Each week they look more and more comfortable in the scheme and defensive coordinator Joe Barry is deploying his limited weapons in better and interesting ways. He will need all hands on deck in week 6, when the Packers invade Soldier Field to take on the Bears. The Bears boast what seems to be a typically ferocious defense, so the Packers will need to match as their offense goes to work. If they want to keep stacking wins, they will need to pay extra attention to these vital matchups.

Packers Tackles vs Robert Quinn/Khalil Mack

Over the past 3 weeks, Packers tackles Yosh Nijman and Billy Turner have turned in repeated impressive performances. They have contained all pros Nick Bosa and TJ Watt, which is no easy feat. Few could have predicted how well Nijman would play after Elgton Jenkins hurt his ankle in week 2. With Jenkins getting closer to healthy, it will be interesting where the Packers deploy him. Nijman has played so well the Packers can move Jenkins where he is needed at guard or even center with Josh Meyers being out last week. Whoever lines up at Tackle for the Packers, they going to have their hands full with the dynamic duo of Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn. Together, they already have 9.5 sacks and are harassing quarterbacks every week. Slowing them down will be absolutely critical to having any success in Chicago.

Robert Tonyan vs Alec Ogletree

While Robert Tonyan has been relatively quiet so far this season, this week against Chicago could be his breakout game in 2021. The Packers are going to need to rely on a quick passing game and Tonyan can take advantage of Chicago’s inside linebackers to get open early. That coupled with the fact that he catches everything will help the Packers keep the chains moving in Chicago and keep the offense on the field. Additionally, as with the past couple of weeks, Tonyan will have a role to play in assisting in pass protection, offering chips and bumps on the Bears edge rushers.

Adrian Amos vs Justin Fields

Bears rookie Justin Fields will be unlike any other quarterback the Packers have faced so far this season. He is a dual threat quarterback, who can hurt you with his legs as well as his arm. He has already shown a propensity for throwing the deep ball as well. The Packers counter to this; Safety Adrian Amos. Adrian burst onto the 2021 scene in Week 5, notching his first interception of the year. The ex-Bear always brings the heat against his former team and the injury ridden Packers are going to need a big-time performance from their star Safety. He will need to be all over the field, whether chasing down Fields on QB runs or providing support on the deep half of the field. Justin Fields is a rookie and makes rookie mistakes. Adrian Amos will be there to capitalize on those mistakes.
