The Green Bay Packers take on the Washington Football team in Lambeau Field on Sunday in what looks like, on paper, a matchup between an ascending team in Green Bay vs. a floundering squad in Washington (WFT). WTF is 2-4 and has a bottom 10 offense and the worst defense in the league, but still has talented players on both sides of the ball.
Spread: Packers are favored at +8
Moneyline: Packers -425
Total points scored: O/U 47.5
Green Bay is rolling into this game on a 5 game winning streak after dropping the season opener to New Orleans and is looking like one of the top contenders in the NFC. Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur have been on fire since Week 2, with Rodgers completing 66% of his passes for 1,436 yards and 12 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. His 7.7 yards per attempt rank below last year but are still good for 13th best in the NFL. This has been in spite of a rash of injuries to the offensive line that has held up well despite the circumstances and the injury to Marquez Valdes Scantling, whose absences has affected the deep passing game,
On the other end of the spectrum, Washington Football Team has a struggling offense and defensive unit that despite success last year have fallen on hard times. The talent on the defensive lines remains with Chase Young, Da’Ron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Montez Sweat but the secondary has had…issues. Washington’s defense has given up 309.5 yards per game and 16 touchdowns, both of which lead the league. If the Packers can keep their time to pass under 2.5 seconds, they should roll through this defense.
Washington’s offense, lead by Taylor Heinke, hasn’t fared much better than the defense. They have a bottom 10 offense in terms of total yards and passing yards and have had injuries as well to some star players. Meanwhile, the Packers (statistically) have a top 10 defense and added the effective Whitney Mercilus this past week. While Za’Darius Smith is sidelined and Preston Smith is Questionable, the Packer’s pass rush needs all the help it can get.
This is a large line at 8 points but I like the Packers to win outright and cover, and I would take the over just on the Packers offense itself
Last Week: 3-0, Overall 7-5 (58%) this season
Last Season Total- 30-20 (66%)
