The Packers will enter the 2022 season with one of the strongest starting secondary’s on paper. Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Eric Stokes make up an incredibly strong cornerback trio. The Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage duo at safety further establishes the strength at the back of the defense. These five defensive backs will rarely leave the field, but in today’s NFL you need more than five defensive backs.

The rest of the Packers secondary is suspect. There are no established or proven players behind the first five. This may certainly be a concern as it is important to have a solid six or even seven defensive backs on the unit.

The top candidates to earn some of this playing time at cornerback are Shemar Jean-Charles, Kabion Ento, and Keisean Nixon. Backup safety’s Vernon Scott, Innis Gaines, Shawn Davis, and Tariq Carpenter may also compete for time. There is a significant lack of experience among these players, but if one or two are able to step up and earn a spot as the sixth or seventh defensive back, it would do wonders for the secondary.

The experience and strong play from the Packers starting defensive backs will allow this unit to rank among the best in the league. This group can be THE best in the league if the starters stay healthy and the depth pieces step up.
