Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson is coming off a season mixed with many ups and downs. He started off on the wrong foot after dropping a would be touchdown in the season opener but hit a hot stretch where he scored 8 touchdowns in four games.

To open the season Allen Lazard was the projected WR1 after the departure of Davante Adams. Lazard had a solid season but during Watson’s touchdown streak many people started to vouch for him as the top receiver.

Watson totaled 41 receptions to go along with 611 yards and 9 touchdowns (7 receiving, 2 rushing). His ability to stretch the field and use his blazing speed was important for the Green Bay Packers. Now the question is will he be able to do it consistently and take a leap his sophomore season.

There are questions regarding whether or not leading receiver Allen Lazard will be back or not. No matter if he is or not, Watson needs to have a breakout season and show the Packers why they traded up in the second round to select him. The Packers need someone to fill the hole Adams left and Watson can absolutely step into that role.

It feels like every offseason in free agency and the draft fans want the Packers to add another receiver. They did that last season by drafting Watson but this year’s draft class has a deep class that may open some eyes. If the Packers feel confident in Watson they may look to other positions of need and settle with their potential top option.

If Watson is able to continue his play from the second half of the season and stay on the field, he can definitely become the top weapon for Rodgers or Love. He is definitely trending in that direction as many fans are hoping so. He was able to put himself in the conversation as the top pass catcher in Green Bay so now it’s a matter of solidifying that role.
