My fellow Green Bay Packers fan, how are you today? How was your weekend? I had an experience that was a first, at least in recent memory. I looked at my phone reading 6:20am on Sunday morning and thought, there’s no way that’s right. It’s still dark out. Welp, I completely forgot about springing ahead an hour. There’s a first time for everything, I guess. I’ll tell you what I definitely didn’t experience for the first time this weekend, being asked my opinion on the current Aaron Rodgers saga. I think I speak for many Packer fans when I say, please just get it over with.

Will Aaron Rodgers be a Jet? Will Aaron Rodgers be a Packer? Or will Aaron Rodgers just retire?

I’ve read opinions that Aaron Rodgers is loving now holding two franchises hostage. Let’s be honest here, both the Packers and the Jets probably have their plans in place for whichever decision is made. They’re ready to move forward at the moment a decision is made in whatever direction. But while Rodgers may have emerged from it, us fans, we’re still completely in darkness.

Us fans, we’re left wondering what’s next. We’re just here squirming over what moment our fandom could be changed forever. It’s like we’ve been here before.

Remembering the Favre Saga

I remember in 2006, I travelled to Green Bay to see a Packers Training Camp practice. Star Quarterback Brett Favre was absent and not reporting until later on in camp apparently. Just a little to my left I recall a few guys chatting about Favre. How he thought about retiring but decided 2006 would be his last year. One of them made the comment that he’s not at camp, so clearly his head isn’t in it, and he should just retire.

Guess what, that wasn’t Favre’s last season. He played two more seasons for the Packers and still tried to come back after a retirement announcement in March of 2008. You know the rest, so I won’t go into detail about, you know, Jets, purple abomination, yeah.

As a young Packer fan in my late teens, early 20s at the time, I grew up with Brett Favre. I remember in 2006 I thought, just let Brett come back. 2007, the same thing. In 2008 however, I was suddenly ready to move on as the constant retirement question had worn thin on me.

But there we were. Hanging on each moment, each word, what was coming next. Unknown to us at the time was that the end of the Favre retirement saga, was the dawn of another very successful era with Aaron Rodgers.

Is another one next?

Looking forward

As we continue to wait on what is to come with Aaron Rodgers, we peek at the possible future. Much like the Favre saga, we have an heir apparent in Jordan Love. That’s what makes these moments bittersweet.

We’re sorry to see one era end, but we’re ready to cheer on the next. But in order to get there we have to face down this current day-to-day madness. We have to endure the endless questioning and conversation with our fellow fans. We have to keep our phones charged and ready for another day of refreshing Twitter five hundred times waiting on news.

For this again, Aaron Rodgers, I beg you, put us out of our misery and just give us your decision. We want to be free of this madness. No matter what it is, we just want to get on with our lives and the offseason knowing who our QB1 is going to be come September.
