The Green Bay Packers have yet to trade Aaron Rodgers as they remain in a standoff with the New York Jets. About two weeks ago Aaron Rodgers publicly announced his intention to play for the Jets but he still remains a Packer since the announcement.
It’s believed that the Jets aren’t willing to meet the Packers’ compensation for Rodgers and they have yet to budge. There could be arguments for both sides on who has the leverage but the expectation was that Rodgers would have been traded already.
Jets general manager, Joe Douglas, said there has been productive talks but they’re not in the place they’d like to be. I don’t think that’s what fans of either fanbase want to hear as it has been pretty frustrating and anxious waiting for a trade to be announced.
It’s rumored that the Packers want the Jets’ 13th selection in this years draft but the Jets aren’t willing to trade it. They also just received a second round pick for Elijah Moore who was also rumored to be a potential trade target for the Packers.
It’s starting to be a concern on what the Packers would receive back in a trade and if they will potentially get back. The Packers don’t want to get the short end of the trade which has led to this standoff between both parties.
It was also reported that Packers general manager, Brian Gutekunst, attempted to reach out to Rodgers but wasn’t able to reach him. That is very concerning as it seems like they may not be on the same page or Rodgers isn’t giving in.
The hope is that the Packers and Jets can come to an agreement soon so both sides can finally go over this hurdle and continue fixing other aspects of their team. A trade before the draft would make lots of sense for both parties as it would allow them to know what compensation they have to work with.
It seems like a trade has been picking up steam lately and both teams have been progressing towards a trade. There has been many rumors and lots of talk so it’s hard to believe anything until it officially happens.
The main reason for the hold up has been compensation as Rodgers even stated that when he was live on the Pat McAfee show. Only time will tell when the trade will be complete but the sooner it’s completed, the more beneficial it will be.
