Green Bay has a new kicker in town as they claimed Brayden Narveson off waivers from the Titans. Narveson went undrafted this year and now finds himself as the starting kicker for the Packers.
It was evident that Green Bay’s staff was unimpressed with the kicking competition between Greg Joseph and Anders Carlson. Both were wildly inconsistent in camp and preseason. With the release of both Carlson and Joseph, it will be up to Brayden Narveson to be the guy for the Packers.
Background
Brayden Narveson began his college career in 2019 at Iowa State where he saw little playing time. He then transferred to Western Kentucky where he spent three years there.
In 2020, after transferring to Western Kentucky, Narveson made an immediate impact and finished the season 13/14 on field goals (92.9%). In 2021 he made 23 of 29 field goals (79.3%) and in 2022 he made 15 of 21 (71.4%).
In 2023 Narveson transferred once more and landed at NC State. He went 18/23 on field goals putting him at 78.3%. He also made history as a member of the Wolfpack and nailed a record breaking 57-yard field goal against Duke.
It is also important to note that during his college career Narveson did not miss a single extra point as he made all 196 that he attempted.
Highlights
Narveson was given most of the playing time for the Titans during the preseason. In that time, he was 2 for 2 on extra points and 6 for 7 on field goals.
His biggest highlights came against Seattle as he nailed a 59-yard field goal and hit the game winning field goal from 46 yards out. Brian Gutekunst seemed to be a fan of Narveson from the start as he stated, “Brayden was a kid that we liked coming out and then he had an excellent preseason there in Tennessee.”
Not only was Gutekunst a fan of Narveson, but it also seems the guys in the locker room are behind the rookie kicker already. Cornerback Jaire Alexander had high praise for the new addition as he told Matt LaFleur “I love this guy.”
