After Jordan Love‘s injury disrupted 2024, Packers coaches and fans are sure to have some expectations for Jordan Love in 2025, in what they hope to be his first full year since signing his $55 million a year deal. We go over some of the expectations Matt LaFleur and co will have for the signal caller in the upcoming season.
Limit the Interceptions
Both of Love’s first two seasons as a starter have been split into two halves. The first half of both seasons Love struggled with turnovers and accuracy, leading to disappointing loses and offensive performances. Out of Loves 22 interceptions over the last 2 seasons, 21 have come prior to week 11, with the only regular season interception after week 11 coming against the Giants in 2023.
The expectations for Love will be to limit the interceptions throughout the whole season. However, after the turnovers were removed in 2024, almost all of the big play and risk was removed, which was a big part of the success in 2023. Green Bay will be hoping he can limit the turnovers whilst still producing the explosive plays which saw him have the second most passing touchdowns in 2023.
Stay Healthy
Love missed approximately 3 games during the 2024 season. He suffered an MCL sprain in the week 1 loss to the Eagles. This meant he missed the next two games, before returning to face the Vikings in week 4. However, during Super Bowl week, he admitted to Kay Adams that he returned early from this injury, which ultimately led to his groin injury he suffered in Jacksonville in week 8.
The groin injury limited Love in the week 9 loss to the Lions. He also never appeared to have the mobility he had displayed in his first season of a starter, limiting his off script plays, and forcing him to stay in the pocket and make awkward throws, resulting in interceptions.
Although the injuries aren’t Love’s fault, the Packers will be hoping that he can stay healthy for the whole season and play at the level he showed towards the end of the 2023 season.
Help the Wide Receivers
The Packers were third in the NFL with 33 dropped passes (via BetMGM). Part of this was at times Love’s accuracy and inconsistency in throws. Although a lot of passes were catchable, they often required the receiver to make an awkward adjustment.
The expectations for Love will be to improve his accuracy, leading his receivers further, allowing them to get more yards after the catch. A prime example of this is the Tucker Kraft catch against the Rams in week 5.
If Love can consistently deliver these types of plays, allowing stars such as Kraft and Reed to use their ability in the open field. With there being uncertainty over the position for 2025, with Watson out, and Doubs unhappy, Love may need to make life as easy as possible for the young receiving core.
Are the Expectations of Love Reasonable?
A short answer: yes.
Love is being paid as an elite quarterback, and needs to play like that in order to validate the front office’s confidence in him.
Although the injuries are not his fault, his accuracy and turnovers can be controlled. A return to late 2023 form could propel the Packers to a deep playoff run in 2025. This will be the expectation of the team, and will not be possible without Love reaching the highs we know he can reach.
