We’ve had one week to grieve the Packers loss to the Bears and one thing stands out, the Packers need help at cornerback.
Since the 2025 season started there were questions on whether or not the Packers needed a CB 1.
It all started with the release of Jaire Alexander during the offseason, as the Packers felt the need to move on from him.
Then the Packers tried to address the position by signing free agent corner Nate Hobbs from the Raiders.
Furthermore the Packers didn’t draft any corners in the 2025 NFL Draft until the final day.
2025 season
At the beginning of the season, it seemed like the corners were average at best.
But the addition of Micah Parsons was able to really cover the Packers holes in the secondary.
The Micah Parsons affect really helped the Packers secondary play aggressive, hence the reason why offenses had to go to the short passing game.
But often during the season, we saw the flaws that the cornerback had.
It was quite obvious that Hobbs wasn’t going to be helpful after a few games.
Furthermore injuries and a lack of getting used to the Packers defensive schemes hampered Hobbs.
That led him to getting benched during the season in favor of Carrington Valentine.
It was also quite obvious that Keisean Nixon wasn’t going to be the answer to the cornerback room ether.
Nixons up and down year

To Nixons credit, he started all 18 games for the Packers this season.
But it was an up and down year for Nixon, who struggled at times.
Including the postseason, Nixon allowed 53 completions on 86 targets for 601 yards.
Nixon also allowed a career worst 7 touchdowns.
This includes a game winning TD against the Bears in Chicago last month.
His undisciplined play also cost the Packers at times.
His 13 flags were almost as many as he had in the six previous seasons combined.
What should the Packers do?
The Packers could very easily move on from Nixon, but his use on special teams will probably save him.
Without a first round pick the Packers will have to wait till day two to possibly draft a good corner.
But at that point in the draft, the Packers could very well not have too many options at pick 52.
The most likely route would be Free agency, which there will be some options for the Packers.

Some options include: Jeff Okudah, Greg Newsome, Rasul Douglass and Tre’Davious White.
The options are there for the Packers if they want to sign a lower end corner.
They also have the option to re-sign Trevon Diggs, who the Packers signed off waivers late in the season.
Conclusion
The Packers Cornerbacks weren’t the best in 2025.
This should be an area for improvement for the Packers coming into the 2026 offseason.
Whether it is through free agency or the draft, the Packers need to find someone to fill the number 1 corner position.
If the Packers can find someone the fill that, along with players like Micah Parsons returning, the Packers defense could be one of the best in 2026.
