In 2019, the Packers took Elgton Jenkins in the second round of the NFL Draft. For the most part, Jenkins has remained a standout on the offensive line.

However, the writing is on the wall as multiple reports have been confirming that Jenkins will be released by the Packers. Jenkins has played four positions on the line since being in Green Bay. His most consistent position being left guard.

With the signing of Aaron Banks, Jenkins moved to center. Jenkins suffered a season ending injury in week 10 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Until that point, Jenkins had one of his worst seasons as a lineman.

Jenkins provides a lot of versatility that will be beneficial to many teams. Offensive lineman is always at a premium. While Jenkins is coming off injury and a lackluster performing season, he will generate plenty of suitors in the offseason.

Packers Cap Space is a Major Reason in Releasing Jenkins

Jenkins has a cap hit of 24.33 million in 2026. He is owed up to 20 million in cash between bonuses and base salary.

It makes sense to release Jenkins after last season. The move to center did not work out as planned. The only way the Packers keep Jenkins is if he agrees to a massive restructing of his contract.

With teams desperate for offensive line help, such as the Chargers, Bengals, and Steelers to name a few, Jenkins will have better opportunities elsewhere. If this season proves anything, it is that you can have all the great quarterback play in the world, but it means nothing without a solid offensive line.

Jordan Love came off a solid 2025 season despite inconsistencies in the offensive line play. This was one of the worst seasons I can remember for a Packers offensive line. If Love continues to play at his top level with a better line, it will be all the benefit for the 2026 season.

Overall, the Packers have way too many needs to be addressed elsewhere. With the major ones being cornerback and defensive tackle. The Packers most likely will continue to build the line through the draft or an affordable free agent.

The Packers do not have time to draft and develop here. They need to find lineman ready to start. For Jenkins, expect to see him staring on an offensive line on another team next season.
