The 2026 NFL Draft has been a productive one for the Green Bay Packers, seeing the front office use its non-premium draft capital to attack positions of need in a way that feels like it had been lacking in the past several drafts.

After trading up in the third round to select DT Chris McClellan, the Packers waited a bit longer than expected for their third selection of day three, and with that selection, they doubled down at a critical position, cornerback.

With the 201st overall pick in the 6th round, the Green Bay Packers selected Domani Jackson out of the University of Alabama.

Analysis:

In the days prior to the draft, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst mentioned that cornerback was the position that needed the biggest infusion of talent, and after selecting Brandon Cisse with his first pick in round two, Gutekunst went back to the well in round six for Domani Jackson.

On the surface, Jackson is a elite athlete with good size, but he doesn’t have much production to show for it just yet.

The Packers new cornerback began his college career at USC, and coming out of high school, only Travis Hunter was ranked higher than him at the position.

He tied California’s state record in the hundred meter dash and ran a 4.41 40 at the Combine but unfortunately, a few injuries have affected his football trajectory.

After transferring to Alabama, Jackson got his first significant playing time, and with that, he became a two-year starter.

In that time however, he only recorded two career interceptions in addition to contributions on special teams.

What Jackson lacks in consistency will hopefully be leveled out by his experience in college football’s best conference, and at the very least, any player that was recruited by former Alabama head coach Nick Saban probably has some pro upside.

Team Fit:

Domani Jackson will likely get his chance on the Green Bay Packers as a reserve corner and special teams ace, but considering the room’s inability to stay healthy over the past couple of seasons, he may get his shot sooner rather than later.

At 6’0″ 194 pounds, Jackson will bring some much-needed physicality, and with his excellent athletic testing, he could become a starting caliber corner if developed correctly.

Off the field, Domani Jackson already has Cheesehead ties as well.

After his selection, Jackson revealed that he has developed a close friendship with former Packer Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, and that the ex-Alabama safety helped him work through adversity in college.

Hopefully that relationship can be beneficial moving forward.

Heading Into Camp

With cornerback being the Packers’ biggest position of need, it’s nice to see another addition, even if it’s mostly based off athleticism.

Jackson’s special teams chops will probably be his most valuable asset as he looks to make the team, and with his speed, I think that he’s nearly guaranteed to stick around, at least as a practice squad option.

As the Draft comes to a close, we can start looking ahead, and if we’re lucky, this rookie crop will be a part of a lot of success to come.
