Another minicamp began for the Green Bay Packers yesterday. Giving us a whole new list of things to overreact to or downplay. While it’s always important to remember how far off meaningful football is, it doesn’t mean that we can’t take away a few things from these early practices.

Today we’ll look at players that had notable days and a big picture concern that looms large despite how early it is.

1. Lukas Van Ness

In case you missed it, multiple reports suggest that Micha Parsons won’t me back until October at the earliest. This is concerning given how badly the Packers pass rush struggled without him last year. Adding to that is the departures of Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare.

Above is just one of the many comments made by reporters at the camp today. It cannot be overstated how important it is for the Packers long term if LVN can become a guy in 2026. Injuries derailed his season last year, but if he can hold down the fort for the first half, he could absolutely feast in the second half once Parsons returns and draws more attention.

The Packers were only able to add so much to the secondary this offseason, so a revitalized pass rush could help an underwhelming group of corners hold their own.

2. Packers Kicker Trey Smack

The last we heard of Trey Smack was a rough day with multiple missed kicks. Granted it was very windy, but its not what any fan wanted to hear after the team essentially handed him the job after cutting Brandon McManus.

Smack was evidently not flustered by this as he opened minicamp with this:

We’ve gone over how many games the kicking cost Green Bay last season, so Smack being able to shake off a rusty practice is an encouraging sign for a player that could swing multiple games this season.

3. Honorable Mention

*Whispers* MarShawn Lloyd looks really explosive. I know about the injuries. I know you can’t expect anything. But its hard not to see the vision.

4. Injuries Already a Concern for Packers.

The root of the Packers collapse last season can be pointed at one thing above all others, injuries. The start to this minicamp can’t have fans feeling much better about that right now.

There are arguably 5-6 starters on this list. I know it’s early but its hard not to look at that list and get flashbacks. While nothing has been reported as long term or serious, this years squad just doesn’t have the depth that the team has had in seasons past. While most of these players should be back by training camp, its definitely something to keep an eye on.

One small silver lining to this is giving newer players additional starting reps. 5th round pick Jager Burton is a player to keep an eye on. He has filled in at both guard spots, and may need to step up this season earlier than expected.
