The Packers have several contracts to make decisions on next off-season, one of the is their current CB 1 in Keisean Nixon.

Nixon is entering the final year of a three year extension he signed in 2024.

Nixon has had his ups and downs during his time as a Packers.

His ups have been highlighted by stepping in during the 2023 and 2024 seasons while former Packer Jaire Alexander was out.

Nixon has also been helpful on special teams as an All-Pro Returner on punts and kicks.

But last year was what some could say, a down year for the former Raider.

Nixon stepped into the role as the starting corner for the Packers.

Like his time with the Packers, Nixon had his ups and downs.

But with Nixon playing on his final year of his contract, his future in the green and gold may be in doubt.

Recently Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin discussed Nixon future in Green Bay saying he doesn’t know if Nixon will show up to training camp if a new deal isn’t reached.

This leaves the question of whether or not Nixon deserves an extension.

Pros of extending Nixon

Packers

Extending Keisean Nixon would give the Packers a veteran CB who can help the group as they develop.

Nixon made the Pro Bowl last year but as an alternative.

In 2025 Nixon started all 17 games, had 58 tackles, along with 17 pass deflections and 1 interception.

Those 17 pass deflections ranked among the league leaders.

Nixon would give the Packers someone who is reliable as he rarely misses games and give an option for the Packers at kick/punt returner.

People forget that before Nixon was a full-time CB, he was an All Pro returner.

Beyond statistics, Nixon would be very hard to replace given his reliability and versatility.

If the Packers were to move on from Nixon, they don’t have many options behind him.

The next most experienced man up would be Carrington Valentine.

While the Packers invested this off-season to improve the Cornerback room with the signing of Benjamin St. Juste and drafting Brandon Cisse, they will need time to get acclimated with the defense.

Why the Packers shouldn’t extend Nixon

While there is some good in extending Keisean Nixon, there are some reasons why the Packers shouldn’t extend him.

One of the things working against Nixon is age.

Nixon will turn 29 during the 2026 season.

While Nixon may show he has plenty left in the tank, the receivers in the league are faster and younger.

The NFL is quickly becoming a young mans game with 30 being the age where players start digressing.

This may make the Packers hesitant in committing to a long term deal with Nixon.

Another thing to consider is Nixon’s recently performance.

Yes, Nixon had a good year statistically, but the play on the field didn’t seem to match it.

There were times where the coverage wasn’t there and there were of signs regression in his coverage.

When targeted, Nixon allowed a passer rating of over 100 and gave up several touchdowns.

Then their is the fact that the Packers made the moves to improve the CB position.

As I mention earlier the Packers spent a draft pick and signed a free agent corner to bolster the position.

All those signs could point to the Packers letting Nixon walk next off-season.

The answer

The Packers should resign Keisean Nixon but only for the right amount.

While Nixon is a dependable Cornerback, the Packers have made the right moves to make sure they have what they need if Nixon walks.

There are also some dependable CB’s left in Free agency if the Packers need to sign someone.

But it is not worth it for the Packers to invest in a Cornerback who is on the odd end of his career.

The Packers have a tendency to lean towards the younger players and giving them a chance on the field.

I just can’t see the Packers resigning Nixon for what he wants.

Whatever the case, the Packers seem ready to let Nixon walk if contract talks don’t work out.
