A tale of Two halfs as the Packers escape New York with a victory |

The Packers came away with a 20-17 over time victory against the New York Jets.

But the win wasn’t easy, it was a girtty win.

It was a tale of two halfs for the Packers.

Green Bay they couldn’t have had a worse start than they did against the Jets.

On their first drive, they had 2 injuries in the first three downs.

Jayden Reed was stretchered out with a neck injury.

Then Zach Bako-Bewele was carted off with a lower leg injury.

To make things worse the Packers continued to struggle.

Penalties and costly mistakes continued to affect the Packers.

The offensive line continued to struggle protecting Jordan Love, while the running game wasn’t producing.

Luckily for the Packers by halftime it was a tie game.

But it felt like Green Bay should be down more than the actual score showed.

First half stats

In the first half it just seemed like Green Bay was still battling through what had happened against the Vikings.

Much like the week before they kept shooting themselves in the foot on both sides of the ball.

Green bay’s offense struggled staying on the field, not gaining a first down until the final play of the first quarter.

Yardage wise it was ugly for both teams in the first half.

Green Bay had 81 yards of offense compared to the Jets 116.

Furthermore the penalties were killing the Packers.

Six penalties for 75 yards was almost a continuation of last weeks game.

The only difference is the Packers were tied 7-7, thanks in part to their defense and special teams.

In the second half the Packers slowly started to turn it around.

But it wasn’t until the fourth quarter where the Packers put up points.

The defense allowed 10 points.

A 5-yard pass to Garrett Wilson made the score 14-7 before the Jets added a field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 17-7, the Packers put together a drive ending in a Christian Watson touchdown to get the game within 3.

With Green Bays defense taking a stand and a big return by Skyy Moore, Trey Smack hit a game tying field goal.

In overtime two consecutive sack denyed the Jets from putting the game in their hands, giving Green Bay momentum.

In the end, the Packers offense drove 58 yards to get Trey Smack into range for the game winning field goal.

Helped by a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty and 2 big pass plays from Jordan Love, Smack hit a 26-yard walk-off kick with 5:23 left in OT.

Jordan Love was 16 of 29 for 145 yards and two TDs and had a 91.9 passer rating.

Leading the way on the ground was Kaleb Johnson with 8 carries for 32 yards.

Receiving wise Matthew Golden continues to impress with 4 catches for 58 yards.

Golden was also able to draw multiple pass interference calls.

Defensively, Green Bay was able to keep the Jets ground game in-check.

Breece Hall was limited to only 29 yards on 16 carries.

Meanwhile Lukas Van Ness had a great game with 1 1/2 sacks and 10 tackles, three of them for a loss.

Bottom line is, that this was a gritty, ugly win for the Packers.

They showed resiliency throughout the game, even with the adversity they had to face.

They’ll have a short week this week as they will face the Falcons on Thursday Night.
