The Packers might have won the game against the Buccaneers but it sure doesn’t feel like a victory.
Coming into the game Green Bay was coming off their worst home opener in a very long time.
Against the Buccaneers, the Packers faced a team with a rookie un-drafted QB in Jalen Daniels.
While the Packers held Tampa Bay to 14 points, the offense still doesn’t look right.
Only scoring 17 points the Packers offense still were struggling with penalties and turnovers.
The injury bug once again bit the Packers, this time on defense.
Inside LB Edgerin Cooper is feared to be lost for the season with an achilles injury.
But not all was bad for the Packers.
Protect Jordan Love
Green Bay came into Sundays game with concerns about their offensive line.
Starting yet another combination on the offensive line, the Packers line showed life against Tampa Bay.
With newly acquired Laken Tomlinson along with Travis Glover, who has been with the Packers for 2 years, Love was protected.
He was able to sit back in the pocket, a far cry from last week.
Furthurmore Love wasn’t sacked all game.
The running game was able to get something going against the Buccaneers.
Green Bay had 86 total rushing yards.
They had two runs over 25 yards, including a 31-yarder from Kaleb Johnson setting up a touchdown.
While the Bucs came into the game with one of the worst pressure rates in the NFL, Green Bay line showed improvement.
With Kevin Zeitler added to the mix, Green bay may have a strong enough offensive line to make it through the season.
Big time Evan Williams
Evan Williams was all over the field Sunday afternoon.
Williams had a first-half interception, a pass break up in coverage, a huge sack on the Buccaneers’ final drive and the game-saving pressure on fourth down.
His interception in the first half set up the Packers on their first touchdown drive of the day.
Later Williams saved the day for the defense, sacking Jalon Daniels on second down after the Bucs got into Packers territory late.
On the last drive of the day Williams helped the Packers by pressuring and then affecting Daniels on his desperation throw on 4th down to close the game.
Williams performance reminded us of another safety who wore the Green and Gold, Leroy Butler.
In Williams, the Packers have someone who can not only be in coverage, but can blitz when needed.
Green Bay needs someone to step up on defense after Edgerin Cooper went down with an injury.
With the chances that Cooper could be out for the season Williams could be the man to step up.
Next Up
The road doesn’t get any easier for Green Bay.
They return home to face the same team that eliminated them in the playoffs last year, the Chicago Bears.
This was a confidence booster for a Packer team low on morale after the loss to the Falcons.
While some might classify this as an ugly win, its a win in the win column.
There is still work to do, but its a slight step up for a team still struggling to string together consecutive wins.
