Chris and Dave come back from a 23-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys sitting at 4-2 and fifth in the NFC, and the first order of business isn’t the Packers at all. It’s the twenty-two penalties, the three roughing calls on one endless drive, the unsportsmanlike flag for a flex, and a league that has managed to make its own product nearly unwatchable. Two guys with a hundred combined years of NFL fandom spend the opening stretch wondering who exactly the NFL thinks it’s appeasing, and whether anyone under thirty is going to sit through this.

Once they get to the football, the mood brightens considerably. There’s real conviction that this defense is the story of the season, that the scheme is doing more than the names on the roster, and a shared worry that the cure might be worse than the disease once its stars come back and someone decides rushing the ball back in vogue. Nine interceptions in six games gets celebrated. Twenty carries for thirty-six yards does not. One of them is building a case that Jerry Jones is the actual problem in Dallas, the other can’t square that with a roster full of stars. And nobody is happy about a team that leads the league in drops, including two in the end zone.

Betting lines produced the lowest average score of the season, which tells you how little anyone saw this game coming, and a familiar name from Michigan takes the suite. This week’s card bets on Josh Jacobs returning, a long field goal indoors, and whether that flea flicker shows up a third straight week.  Next is Ford Field and a Lions team coming off a bye in what might be the best division in football. Plus the European convention report from London, a limerick with a Trojan War reference, and a dinner party movie Dave is not eager to discuss again.

Posting its first show in 2005, Packers Therapy is the longest-running Packers podcast on the Internet. Hosts Chris and Dave began the show as a way of capturing the spirited chats the two co-workers had about the team around the office. The two have no pretense about being experts: they are just two opinionated shareholders who love the team, follow it closely, but don’t always see the Packers fortunes eye to eye.

The guys encourage comments and questions via their Twitter feed @PackersTherapy or email to packerstherapy@yahoo.com and read and respond to as many as they can during each show.

Packers Therapy is a part of the Packers Talk family of podcasts, serving up five distinct podcasts to satisfy the most fervent of Packer fans. Variety is the spice of life, so subscribe to Packers Talk on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also follow Packers Talk on Twitter and Facebook.
