Do yourself a favor and set a reminder right now for August 11 and here’s why.
The final centennial event celebrating the Packers’ 100th Season starts 10 a.m., on the team’s 100th birthday, Sunday, August 11th.
The first 5,000 fans to the Lambeau Field Atrium on this day will receive Lambeau Field seed packets for free.
And that’s not all……..
One in every 50 seed packets will be autographed by Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Kenny Clark, Jaire Alexander, Blake Martinez, Head Coach Matt LaFleur, General Manager Brian Gutekunst or Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. (a)
Throughout the day, public screenings of the Legacy documentary (first episode), chronicling the roots of the Green Bay Packers during their first decade will also be shown. Neat!
Personally, the Lambeau Field seed packets are a must-have and will be the closest I’ll ever get to owning turf from Lambeau Field.
You’ll recall in 2018 the Packers replaced, but did not sell, the old turf.
And like me, you probably missed the opportunity in 1997 when the Green Bay Packers sold $10.00 boxes of sod cut from the NFC championship game hosted at Lambeau Field January 12, 1997. (b)
Included in the shoebox like packaging was a bag of sod and certificate of authenticity signed by Bob Harlan, and Todd Edlebeck, respectively the Packers President and Lambeau Field supervisor at that time. (b)
Instructions “For real ‘Frozen Tundra’ effect, place in freezer for 4 to 6 hours.”
I could only find one image of this online. Zero results on eBay!
I also understand that before the NFC championship game that year, 500 tons of green bluegrass was delivered to resurface Lambeau Field and fans waited in the parking lot for pieces of the old turf. One woman had clumps in a bucket which “Fell off one of the trucks.” (c)
That would’ve been me back then, and I won’t miss this current opportunity.
