With Aaron Rodgers’ situation unknown, it appears that Green Bay’s front office has shifted their attention to locking Davante Adams down for the foreseeable future. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the contract extension would ‘likely’ make Adams the ‘highest-paid receiver in the league’.

Adams certainly deserves to be paid after his dominating campaign during the 2020-2021 season. The 28-year-old wideout racked up career-highs in targets (149), receptions (115), touchdowns (18) and yards per game (98.1) in just 14 games played. He also registered 1,374 yards on the season, just eight yards short of his career-high 1,386 yards he recorded he 2018 when he played in 15 games.

Currently, Arizona’s De’Andre Hopkins is the highest-paid receiver at $27.3 million per year. During his first season with the Cardinals, Hopkins notched 160 targets, 115 receptions, 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games. Adams’ campaign certainly stacks up to Hopkins and deserves to be paid as such, particularly when you consider Adams accumulated similar, if not better, stats in two less games.

Adams’ Best Games of 2020-2021

Week 1 @ Vikings

Adams set the pace early by dominating the Vikings’ young secondary in Week 1 as the Packers cruised to a 43-34 win. Adams registered a season-high 14 receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Week 7 @ Texans

Adams had missed time with an ankle injury and hadn’t quite gained his Week 1 form until, for some unexplained reason, the Texans refused to cover Adams in Week 7. He broke out for 13 receptions for a season-high 196 yards and two touchdowns in a masterclass of route-running technique as the Packers dominated the Texans 35-20.

Week 16 vs Titans

The Packers faced the Titans in Week 16, which many people were lauding the Packers’ first true test of the season after benefiting from a easier schedule. Adams solidified the Packers as true contender by dismantling the Titans’ secondary for 11 receptions, 142 yards and season-high three touchdowns. The Packers embarrassed the Titans 40-14 on a snowy night at Lambeau Field.
