Green Bay Packers football is finally back! Although the game doesn’t count for anything in the standings, there is plenty of meaningful football to be played when the Packers and Texans meet under the bright lights of Lambeau Field later tonight!

As the Packers get ready to play their first football game since January, here are 3 Things to Watch in tonight’s contest.

1) Jordan Love and Kurt Benkert

All eyes will be on Packers Quarterback Jordan Love. Green Bay’s 1st round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft has yet to play in a game – preseason or regular season for the Packers, until tonight. Love will see his first in-game action in the NFL and with that, give everyone an initial glimpse on where he’s at with the offense.

Particular things I will be keeping my eye on with Love will be his decision making and accuracy. Additionally, it’ll be interesting to see if the play-calling is more tailored around short, quick throws, or if Love will have numerous opportunities to throw the ball vertically down the field.

Regardless on how Love plays, there should be no over-reactions, on the positive or negative side. It’s his first ever NFL game and it’s only Week 1 of the Preseason, where players are getting their feet wet with “real football” for the first time in months.

Kurt Benkert is the other Packers QB who will get an opportunity to showcase his talent in tonight’s game. Benkert, who hasn’t played in a game in almost two years, is looking to earn a roster spot with Green Bay as one of their backup Quarterbacks.

2) Packers Cornerbacks

It’ll be interesting to see which Packers cornerback separates themselves from everyone else during preseason. We’ll potentially begin to find out tonight.

Packers CB Jaire Alexander is a lock to be an opening day starter, however the second CB position is up in the air right now. Packers veteran CB Kevin King is the front-runner to be the other starter alongside Alexander but he just practiced for the first time on Thursday as he’s been dealing with a hamstring injury. Given King’s history with nagging injuries, this is a good time for the Packers to find out who they can count on for added depth when the games count.

In terms of the younger guys, I’m particularly interested to see how rookies Eric Stokes and Shemar Jean-Charles look in their first ever NFL action.

3) RB Kylin Hill

The Packers drafted Kylin Hill in the 7th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Hill played his college football at Mississippi State, where he produced 3,166 yards from scrimmage to go along with 22 touchdowns in 30 career games. So far, the progress report on Hill’s rookie Training Camp with the Packers has been good.

A great article by Packers writer Daire Carragher on Kylin Hill can be found here.

Bonus: Packers Fans in the Stands

I’m really excited to see a crowded Lambeau Field tonight. While I don’t expect every seat, or bleacher, to be filled as one would for a regular season game, tonight’s crowd will have the most fans in the stands since January 12th of 2020, when the Packers played the Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.
