Spread: Packers are 3.5 point favorites (opened at 4)

Moneyline: Packers -190

The Packers and Saints have always produced memorable games, and I remember the 2011 Week 1 game as being one of the most memorable opening games of my lifetime. A decade later, both of these teams come in with Super Bowl aspirations and a rapidly closing door to achieve them.

Last year the Packers visited New Orleans and were able to escape with a 37-30 victory. This was during their stretch without Davante Adams who suffered a toe injury but the Packers were still able to move the ball downfield efficiently. defensively, Alvin Kamara took the unit to task with 197 yards and one nightmare of a highlight.

This year will look different for a few reasons and none are more obvious than the retirement of Drew Brees. Jameis Winston will take over the reins as the starter behind the best offensive line in football but will be without All-Pro caliber receiver Michael Thomas who will begin the season on the PUP list.

Coach Sean Payton is entering his 16th season with New Orleans and always brings a potent offense to bear. However, this Matt LaFleur squad can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the NFL so it would be fair to expect fireworks. This will ultimately be a game in which the defense is able to make a stop, and while we do not know what Joe Barry will bring to the table, the Packers have the personnel and experience over the Saints.

I will be taking the Packers straight up (-190) and also like them to cover (+3.5).

Over/Under Total Points Scored: 49.5

Both Dallas and Tampa Bay set the stage for what opening week will look like in terms of how Teams will look in their first live game action in 8 months. While there were stretches of poor play and the players did look to be winded in the fourth quarter, the points flowed.

While the Saints played more of their starters in the preseason, the Packers sat down more than 30 players every game and let the younger guys and fringe players get reps. However, this Packers offense should be able to pick up where they left off last year and will be able to attack the Saints downfield from the jump.

I would be shocked if this doesn’t turn into another 67 point scoring bonanza- take the over here.

Last Season Total- 30-20 (66%)
