Football is back, we can all finally breath again. The Green Bay Packers kicked off Training Camp this week and possibly the biggest standout, was rookie Wide Receiver, Romeo Doubs.

Unless you’ve slept through the last few months, you’re well aware that the Packers Wide Receiver position is under a lot of heat this offseason. Everyone is wondering what the Packers are going to do after the trade of star receiver Davante Adams to the Raiders. Well, if the first few days of camp have shown us anything, it’s that Romeo Doubs wants to have a say in that matter. Doubs was a playmaking machine the first days of camp. There wasn’t a single reporter present at camp that wasn’t at least making an honorable mention of Doubs, and his playmaking abilities in their comments.

You’ve been Moss’d

Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Randy Moss made a career out of catching the ball over defenders no matter how tight of coverage he faced. Romeo Doubs has made this play twice this week in training camp snaps. The first one was a sideline grab over Kabion Ento on a pass from QB Danny Etling that earned a few eyebrow raises. The second, was a red-zone grab from Aaron Rodgers where he was being covered very tightly by standout second-year CB Eric Stokes, but still extended his arms over Stokes to make the big catch. The first against Ento was impressive enough, but the one against Stokes, a CB who shut down a few top receivers last year in his rookie season, is a pretty impressive feat. Doubs has earned “Moss’d” comments before in college at Nevada, but many took to social media to ensure the masses knew that after pulling this off twice in two days of his first NFL camp, Doubs could be the real deal.

Focus on the next play

Even with these big plays early on, Romeo Doubs is staying focused. In a post-practice interview, Doubs stated “I understand celebrating is important, but I just make sure I try to focus on the next play. That’s the biggest thing for me, you can have a great play, the next play could be bad, emotions kind of change.” That’s a pretty good outlook coming from a young Wide Receiver. Answering a question about his future Hall of Fame Quarterback’s reaction to his big plays, Doubs commented that “it’s just handshakes from Aaron” and that he knows he still has more days of Training Camp to come. Good, stay focused young man, don’t take these days for granted.

It’s the first week of camp, I know, but I’m still going to enjoy it. Everyone has put their expectations for a rookie standout Wide Receiver on the back of Christian Watson. With Watson currently sidelined, it’s outstanding to see another rookie Wide Receiver take over those headlines. Here’s to hoping Romeo Doubs continues his success and becomes another name on the list of great Packers Wide Receivers.
