Samori Toure went into last years training camp with a small shot to make it to roster, after being drafted in the 7th round of last years NFL draft.

Defying all odds Toure made the 53 man roster. Although he was inactive for the first 6 games of the season, he went on to play in the next 11 games, scoring his first touchdown vs. the Buffalo Bills in a week 8 loss. That would end up being his only touchdown of the season.

Toure finished the season with only 5 receptions for 82 yards.

Although he didn’t show much during his limited playing time last season Toure was able to make the most of his opportunities. Now with 2 of the top 3 three receivers gone. He has a chance to make the team as ether the number three or four receiver. But that does bring up the question, does Toure have a chance to make the roster and get more increased playing time?

The Answer

The short answer is yes, Toure definitely has a high chance of making the 53 man roster.

Upside for Samori Toure

Unlike last year when he was a rookie, Toure has some experience under his belt and can use that to his advantage.

Keep in mind he is one of only three receivers from last year returning, along with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

Toure showcased what he could bring to the team last year during the preseason. If he can show the ability to stretch the field and be dependable, Toure can make it as the third receiver behind Doubs and Watson.

Toure also has experience playing with Jordan Love as his Quarterback. During training camp, preseason and the season he was able to work with Love with Love running the second team offense. That defiantly is a plus for Toure heading into this season as Love enters his first season as the starting Quarterback.

Downside for Samori Toure

There is a chance that Toure doesn’t make the roster and can get cut from the team.

One of the reasons could be because of the two wide receivers the Packers drafted in this years NFL Draft Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks.

Reed has the ability to be the Packers third wide receiver and play a role on special teams. He also has the ability to be the Packers slot receiver. Reed has drawn comparisons to former Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb.

Meanwhile Wicks has the ability to be a big play playmaker and stretch the field. He also has the size and speed of a big play wide receiver.

Both pose a threat to Toure and they can take his position on the roster.

It might be more of a battle also as the Packers may only plan to keep four receivers on the roster as oppose to five on the roster.

Worst case scenario is that Toure could make the Packers practice squad if he is cut.

Conclusion

Last year the Packers focus was on who was going to be the starting Wide Receiver for the Packers.

With Watson and Doubs being pretty much locks to make the roster, the battle for the third and fourth Wide Receiver spot will be the focus this year during training camp.

Toure has a step on all the other incoming Wide Receivers with his experience, but he will has to have a stand out training camp like last season to make the roster this year.
