Last year I wrote an article on Samori Toure and the expectations for him coming into the 2023 season.

He was expected to be challenging for the slot receiver spot or the 4th receiver spot.

But as the season went on last year it became apparent that Toure wasn’t needed in 2023.

Toure was passed by Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks on the depth chart, further limited his snaps.

Toure found himself on the bottom of the depth chart battling for snaps on offense and playing special teams instead.

Late in the season, Bo Melton took his spot on the depth chart and was put on injured reserve.

The expectations for Toure have changed over the past year but he still has a shot to make the team.

Hence the reason why he needs to have the training camp of his life coming into the 2024 season.

Returning to form for Samori Toure

Samori Toure will need to go back to what he did his rookie season to make the team.

When Toure earned a roster spot back in 2022, he did it by showing he can be a threat in the passing game.

Though he didn’t having the numbers in the regular season to show for it, Toure showed sparks of it in 2022.

Like in 2022, Toure faces a tough wall the climb in terms of competition.

He’ll most likely be battling for the 5th or 4th Wide Receiver spot.

The top three spots are basically locks to make the team.

Obstacles in front of Toure

Toure faces a lot of obstacles coming into the 2024 season.

One of the obstacles he is facing is battling Bo Melton, who is currently the 5th WR.

Melton had a breakout year in 2023, becoming one of Jordan Love’s favorite target.

Toure will have to work hard this off-season and training camp to develop the same chemistry Love and Melton had late last season.

Then theres the Wicks factor in all of this.

Wicks had a great 2023 season with over 500 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

While he is almost a lock to be the 4th receiver behind Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed, Wicks himself needs a good training camp to maintain his spot.

But with the chemistry between Wicks and Love there is a very small chance Toure could unseat Wicks as the 4th WR.

Conclusion

With high hopes last year that Samori Toure could make the jump, that quickly fell apart.

With the deck stacked against Toure, this might be his last chance to make an impression on the Packers.

If nothing more, this is also a chance for him to show other teams that he is worth a roster spot.
