Today we look at some realistic options for the Green Bay Packers with the 2025 Packers NFL Draft Prospect Primer. Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutenkunst 2025 draft is going to be very important. Gutenkunst typically likes having as many picks as possible, however in 2025 the team currently holds only 7 draft picks. The GM is forced to be very careful with how he uses his resources. With needs at EDGE, DL, CB, and WR, the amount of picks at the Packers disposal will need to be used wisely.
EDGE – Shemar Stewart – Texas A&M
Stewart possesses many intriguing traits – long, strong, explosive, and has an NFL ready frame. At 6’5’’ 281 lbs, Shemar was a five star recruit coming out of high school. He is long and quick off the snap, also durability was never an issue. He is tailor-made for an agressive 4-3 system where he can pin his ears back and attack. Stewart also has the ability to stack and shed while maintaining his gap integrity.
EDGE – Bradyn Swinson – LSU
Bradyn Swinson is a late bloomer with big hands and a frame that can add more muscle. Swinson is a 6’4’’ 250 lb Defensive end from Douglasville, Georgia. Emerging as one of the most disruptive EDGE defenders in 2024 with 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Even when he is initially blocked he finds ways to influence passing lanes and harass quarterbacks. An explosive first step constantly puts pressure on opposing offensive tackles. At LSU Swinson was very successful at winning the race to the edge.
CB – Jahdae Barron – Texas
Barron is a big nickel back who always seemed to be at the right place at the right time throughout his 2024 campaign. He is a 5’1’’ 200 lb Cornerback out of Austin, Texas. At times it seemed Barron ran receiver’s routes for them like he knew the play, tallying 5 interceptions. In 2024 Barron took home the Jim Thorpe Award as the nations top defensive back. He carries remarkable versatility by excelling at multiple positions in the secondary.
CB – Azareye’h Thomas – Florida State
Azareye’h Thomas is a press man CB with average speed but he has excellent length to disrupt game flow for his opponents. Thomas does a good job jabbing and smothering WRs off their release. At 6’1’’ and 191 lbs he has exceptional length that works nicely with his quick-twitch athleticism that allows him to shrink passing windows. He does a great job affecting throws even when slightly out of position in coverage.
DT – Kenneth Grant – Michigan
Kenneth Grant is a 6’4’’, 331 lb DT out of Gary, Indiana. Grant is a broad-bodied nose tackle whose tape can sometimes run hot and cold. He uses his power and length to beat single blocks and split double teams when he finds the crease. Possessing an impressive quick first step, he immediately applies pressure on offensive lineman and quarterbacks. At Michigan he developed a pass rush repertoire including swim, rip, club, and spin moves without solely relying on a bull rush despite a power advantage.
DT – Derrick Harmon – Oregon
Harmon is wide, long and naturally powerful at the point of attack. He creates traffic jams inside as a two-gaper or stunt and tends to power his way into the backfield. At 6’4’’ 313 lbs, Harmon contains an exceptional blend of size length and strength which makes him very tough to move. He displays strong hands that enable him to consistently win the leverage battle at the point of attack. Harmon thrives as a 3-technique in an attacking front where he can fire off the ball and use his explosive first step.
