The draft is tomorrow! The last bit of football entertainment until camps begin late this summer. Before the event kicks off tomorrow for real I thought I’d take one crack at producing the most accurate* mock you will see this offseason, including what the Packers will do Thursday night
*It will not be this
- 1. Tennessee Titans – Cam Ward, QB Miami
- 2. Cleveland Browns – Travis Hunter, WR/CB Colorado
- 3. New York Giants – Abdul Carter, EDGE Penn St.
- 4. New England Patriots – Will Campbell, T LSU
- 5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Ashton Jeanty, RB Boise St
- 6. Las Vegas Raiders – Kelvin Banks, OT Texas
A few surprises in the first six picks starting with Jacksonville taking Jeanty. While they’ve been married to Graham in just about every mock for the last two months, Jeanty has picked up steam as the pick in the days leading up to Thursday. Banks is another player I could see going much higher than anticipated.
- 7. New York Jets – Mason Graham, DT Michigan
- 8. Carolina Panthers – Jalon Walker, LB Georgia
- 9. New Orleans Saints – Jaxson Dart, QB Ole Miss
- 10. Chicago Bears – Tyler Warren, TE Penn St
- 11. San Fransisco 49ers – Walter Nolen, DT Ole Miss
- 12. Dallas Cowboys – Tetairoa McMillan, WR Arizona
Packers fans dreaming of a McMillan pick probably have their hopes dashed in this portion of the draft. It’s hard to see Dallas passing on a receiver given the current state of their WR room. Ben Johnson tries to get his version of Sam LaPorta with the Warren Pick. Kellen Moore and the Saints know that the Derek Carr experiment is over, and look to secure their QB of the future, just not the one many expect.
- 13. Miami Dolphins – Armand Membou, OT Missouri
- 14. Indianapolis Colts – Coltson Loveland, TE Michigan
- 15. Atlanta Falcons – Mike Green, EDGE Marshall
- 16. Arizona Cardinals – Jihaad Campbell, LB Alabama
- 17. Cincinnati Bengals – Donovan Ezeiruaku, EDGE Boston College
- 18. Seattle Seahawks – Tyler Booker, G Alabama
Out of this group, Ezeiruaku is the only one that I’ve seen given to the Packers with any degree of regularity in other mocks. The rest of the picks here would seem to be good matches between available players and team needs. That being said it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the Seahawks go WR at this spot, and Arizona could pick just about any defensive player and justify it if they aren’t convinced on Campbells health.
- 19.Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Matthew Golden, WR Texas
- 20. Denver Broncos – Omarion Hampton, RB North Carolina
- 21. Pittsburgh Steelers – Shedeur Sanders , QB Colorado
- 22. Los Angeles Chargers – Kenneth Grant, DT Michigan
- 23. Green Bay Packers – Will Johnson, CB Michigan
- 24. Minnesota Vikings – Malaki Starks, S Georgia
I really want Green Bay to take a WR this year. Many of you likely want the Packers to take a WR this year. I could easily see this pick being Emeka Egbuka. That all being said, if Will Johnson falls to this point in the draft, I have a hard time seeing a Packers team that may trade their best CB during this very draft pass on a talent like Johnson. The Steelers stop the Sanders slide, and Minnesota finds their successor to 300 year old Harrison Smith.
- 25. Houston Texans – Josh Simmons, OT Ohio St
- 26. Los Angeles Rams – Emeka Egbuka, WR Ohio St
- 27. Baltimore Ravens – Josh Conerly Jr, OT Oregon
- 28. Detroit Lions – Shemar Stewart, EDGE Texas A&M
- 29. Washington Commanders – James Pearce Jr, EDGE Tennessee
- 30. Buffalo Bills – Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
- 31. Kansas City Chiefs – Donovan Jackson, G Ohio St
- 32. Philadelphia Eagles – Jahdae Barron, CB Texas
Stewart, Harmon and Barron all falling this far is unlikely, but stranger things have happened. I would not be surprised if we saw several trades occur in this range as teams from the top of the second look to move up.
Circling back to the Packers, I ultimately believe that if they make their pick at 23, the player is likely a CB or WR. I know there has been smoke around Edge and DT, but I believe this draft will have options for both of those spots in the mid to later rounds.
The Green Bay Packers will ultimately end up with one of Will Johnson, Emeka Egbuka, or Jahdae Barron.
Per tradition all three of those players will be available at 23, and Green Bay will go in a direction very few predicted.
