For new Packers defensive end Barryn Sorrell, it was a long wait for him to get his name called.

Sorell was in Green Bay for all three days of the NFL draft.

While he didn’t expect his name to be called on the first day, Sorell was hoping to have his name called on day 2.

But that never happened and Sorrell had to make a decision to ether stay in Green Bay or go back home and wait for his name to be called.

Luckily Sorrell had to patience and stayed in Green Bay for one more day.

The Packers snatched up Sorrell early on Day 3 of the NFL draft, using their 4th round pick on him.

Sorrell got a warm welcome from the Green Bay fans as he came out on stage.

He also met with fans and got a sneak peak of Lambeau Field on the same day.

It was an emotional day for Sorrell but patience finally payed off for the young man from Texas.

Heres a first look at the new defensive lineman for the Packers.

Career at Texas

Sorrell played his college football at Texas from 2021 to 2025.

During his true freshman year in 2021 Sorell played in only six games and finished the year with 3 solo tackles, one of those were for a loss of yardage.

In his sophomore year Sorrell’s playing time increased playing in 13 games for the Longhorns.

Furthermore he started 10 games and fnished the season with 44 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks along with a forced fumble.

His stats went down a little for the 2023 season but Sorrell was still productive.

Sorrell finished the season with 37 tackles and four sacks.

His final year at Texas Sorell had 44 tackles and six sacks.

How Barryn Sorrell can help the Packers?

Barryn Sorrell can help the Packers in the pass rushing department.

The Packers pass rush last year wasn’t the best.

With Sorrell, the Packers have some one who has the power and agility to get pressure on the Quarterback.

What the Packers saw in Sorrell was someone who even though doesn’t have the size of an edge rusher, can use his power and his hands to shed blocks.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst described his playing style as a lot of power, length and hands.

Not only can Sorrell help in the pass rush department, but he can help in the run defense as well.

With his size and strength, it will be hard to block him on the edge with a TIght End or Tackle.

If Sorrell can bring his strength and speed to the Packers defensive front, it will bring much needed help to a position that the Packers need to add depth to.

Sorrell will likley be competing with Lukas Van Ness and Brenton Cox Jr. for playing time.

But Sorrell will get some playing time with the rotation the Packers typically have at defensive end.
