While it is common for first round draft picks to be the main focus, the draft picks that intrigue me the most are the ones that slide. Barryn Sorrell, the Packers fourth round choice is a clear example of an intriguing pick for the Packers.

Sorrell waited in Green Bay to be picked. While he anxiously waited, he remained in outstanding spirits. A video of Sorrell shows him dapping up his Longhorns and now Packers teammate, Matthew Golden.

In the fourth round, after three days, Sorrell walks down the draft stage. He hugs Roger Goodell, then what better way to be greeted than by the fans you will be playing for? The Packer fans completely embrace him with Go Pack Go cheers.

Throughout the entire draft experience, Sorrell continued to impress many. After a tearjerker of an opening press conference, he proves to offer so much to this team. Many did not expect Brian Gutekunst to wait until day three to address the pass rush.

The selection of Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round shows me that Gutekunst believes in the players that are in the building now. However, one thing that cannot be denied is the impact Sorrell can have from day one.

Barryn Sorrell: Star of the Packers 2025 Draft?

When I look at the Packers 2025 draft class, it is easy to make the argument that Matthew Golden will make the biggest impact day one. However, the wide receiver room is very crowded. Meanwhile, the edge can use massive improvement.

Sorrell doesn’t just possess excellent skills as a pass rusher; he is an even better person. During his opening press conference at Lambeau, you could hear a pen drop as he tearfully thanks his family. Many Packers beat writers described it as one of the most emotional interviews they have ever been apart of.

While Sorrell is clearly not a finished prospect, what he possesses is the hunger to be the best he can be. If he remains easily coachable, he can succeed and potentially be a starter. Sorrell’s strengths of upper body power and rallying to the quarterback is a natural fit in Hafley’s defense.

I am anxious to see how the new defensive line coach, DeMarcus Covington, will perform. A change in coaching and new competition can be the breath of fresh air the Packers edge room has been looking for.
