This certainly is a pipe dream for most Packers fans, but what would it take to bring Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers? Most Packers fans have become familiar with X user RickeyScoops and his popular rumor mill tweets over the years. Today RickeyScoops certainly got Green Bay Packers fans buzzing around the thought of Parsons in a Packers uniform.
So the big question is what would it take to bring Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers? Brian Gutekunst is more willing than former GM Ted Thompson to sign free agents and claim players off waivers. Trading is not something the GM has utilized much since taking over as the general manager in 2018. Gutenkunst typically does not make trades for veteran players, but you would think Micah Parsons would be an exception to that rule. This is not uncharted territory for the Packers GM, in 2018 another prized pass rusher was on the market. The first year GM at the time was not afraid to take a big swing for Khalil Mack. We all know how that played out with Mack ending up with the rival Chicago Bears.
It would take a combination of high draft picks and cap space. First, the Dallas Cowboys don’t seem inclined to trade Micah Parsons. IF they did, it would demand a big offer—starting with two first-round picks, especially for an NFC rival. Parsons will also become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, with around $42 million per season. It’s a lot to give up. But Parsons plays a premium position and brings a level of versatility that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley would love. He’s also only 26 years old, which means the Packers would be getting him in his prime.
What Micah Parsons has done so far in the league nothing short of impressive. He’s tallied up at least 12 sacks in each of his four seasons, including his rookie year. Last season, he registered 12 sacks in only 13 games. It’s not just his sack production though. Throughout his first four NFL seasons, Parsons racked up 330 pressures. Rashan Gary in comparison has had 280 in six seasons. Since 2021, not even Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson, and TJ Watt have had as many pressures as Parsons.
We all suspect this story ends with Jerry Jones caving in and giving Parsons whatever he wants to keep him in Dallas. Jones caved in similar situations over the last few years with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. However the Packers could give up a package with two first-rounders and Kingsley Enagbare or Rashan Gary to the Cowboys. Perhaps the Packers would only offer Enagbare, but maybe Gary is what would allow Jerry Jones to pull the trigger? Three first-round picks would be too much for any non-elite quarterback, so that’s a step the Packers wouldn’t go. But a package with two ones, a rotational edge player, and maybe some mid- or late-round swaps to make the deal more enticing could work. It sure is fun to think about Micah Parsons working under Jeff Harley.
