It really happened Packers fans, Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers! General Manager Brian Gutekunst actually pulled it off, the blockbuster trade Packers fans have been waiting decades for. Two weeks ago we explored the possibility of the this trade going down, but it was just a pipe dream. No one truly believed that the Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones would actually trade one of the most elite pass rushers in NFL history. Green Bay Packers fans woke up this morning to that exact reality, August 28th, 2025 could go down as one of the biggest days in the history of this historic franchise. In January Gutekunst stated that it “was time to start competing for championships”, a statement that hits a little bit different now. The Green Bay Packers championship window is wide open after yesterday’s blockbuster trade.

The Trade

The Green Bay Packers traded two 1st round picks and DT Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys for the services of All Pro EDGE Micah Parsons. The team then made Parsons the highest paid non QB in NFL history. The 4 year 188 million dollar deal averages 47 million per season. Clearly Packers GM Brian Gutekunst had no problem handing that money to one of the most elite pass rushers in the game today. The player on the way out of town, Kenny Clark was just given a rare 3rd contract in Green Bay last offseason. The former Pro bowl DT battled through a foot injury last season that seemed to hamper his play. Jerry Jones insisted that making this trade made the Dallas Cowboys a lot better run defense. Jones stated he only was willing to listen to an offer with a Defensive Tackle involved. Jerry got his wish.

Below AtoZSportsNFL Writer Wendell Ferreira broke down the rushing grades from last season:

The Cowboys willingly shipping out their best player, a three-time All-Pro and three-time Defensive Player of the Year finalist in his four NFL seasons. Micah Parsons has tallied 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles, nine forced fumbles, nine passes defensed and four fumble recoveries in four seasons. Parsons occupies a rare place in modern football history as one of only three defenders to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first four campaigns, joining future Hall of Famers Aaron Donald and Patrick Peterson. Parsons now joins a Green Bay defense that has attempted to beef up its pass-rushing unit over the last few years but hasn’t seen consistent results, finishing 20th in the NFL in quarterback pressure rate (32.3%) last season, per Next Gen Stats. Rashan Gary has been the Packers best quarterback hunter but clearly needed a running mate to allow the defense to blossom under 2nd year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Looking at Parsons ranks as a pass rusher in his career you can certainly understand the urgency to add him to the Green Bay Defense.

The newly acquired superstar is set for his introductory press conference today at 2:30. Until then, let’s enjoy this amazing cut up Micah Parsons posted shortly after the Blockbuster trade to Green Bay went down.
