Have the clouds parted to bring Asante Samuel Jr. to Lambeau to fix the secondary?

The Green Bay Packers’ secondary has shown a lot of inconsistency in 2025. The vaccuum created without Jaire Alexander being a lockdown corner for the squad is on full display. Nate Hobbs hasn’t filled void as the Packers had hoped, however I think that comes more down to scheme, he is a slot corner, not an outside guy.
I have been very vocally critical of Keisean Nixon the last 2 seasons, and I would still maintain that he is better suited as a Special Teams weapon, and as a Nickel package blitz option.
After hosting Samuel for a visit, the potential fit between player and team is hard to ignore. He brings top-tier coverage skills, proven NFL experience, and the kind of aggressive mentality that could immediately bolster Green Bay’s defensive backfield. His ability to play both outside and in the slot gives defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley valuable flexibility in his schemes.
Clearing Medical

As many have reported, Asante Samuel Jr.’s visits around the league have less to do with ability and more to do with clearing him medically. Here’s the tour he’s going on through the middle of next week:
- Carolina Panthers (visited Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025)
- Green Bay Packers (visited Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025)
- Minnesota Vikings (visiting Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 – today)
- San Francisco 49ers (scheduled for Monday, Nov. 10, 2025)
- Chicago Bears (scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025)
Teams With An “In”
NFL players tend to have connections to teams through past coaches and former teammates.
When it comes to the Packers claim for familiarity, look no further than current passing game coordinator, Derrick Ansley, pictured below with Samuel.

Ansley was the defensive backs coach and later the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers during Samuel Jr.’s first three NFL seasons (2021-2023), and they reportedly have a good relationship.
However there’s also this little pearl of information as well.
Packers Should Sign Asante Samuel – It’s A No Brainer

If Samuel is cleared medically, signing him would be a low-risk, high-reward move for Green Bay. At just 25 years old, he’s still entering his prime and has already demonstrated the instincts and ball-hawking ability that made him a standout in Los Angeles. The Packers’ young and inexperienced defensive backs could benefit greatly from Samuel’s experience and film study habits.
Here’s a breakdown of his stats to date in the NFL:

Ultimately, the Packers are in a position where every upgrade counts as they push for a playoff run. Bringing in Asante Samuel Jr., assuming his health checks out, would strengthen a critical position group and send a clear message that the team is serious about tightening up its defense for the stretch run. With his proven track record in coverage and his upside still untapped, Samuel could be the piece that helps the Packers’ defense take the next step.
Lastly, here’s a highlight reel to remind you of this guy’s potential.
