The Packers wrapped up minicamp this past week. Now, the only thing before the start of the new season is training camp. Training camp will give us answers to how the offense and defense will be set.
Last season, the team ran into several issues when it came to offensive cohesiveness. If you asked someone what the identity is of the offense, many would struggle to come up with a solid answer.
This has been a problem in the Jordan Love era. One criticism being Matt LaFleur is not specifically tailoring the offense to Love’s strengths. Another is that the offense is too predictable.
This season, the Packers cannot settle for comfortability. If they want to compete for a Super Bowl, they have to be willing to be flexible and think outside of their box.
Packers’ Keys to Offensive Success

The extension of Christian Watson left many asking questions as to why. However, those who truly watch Watson play and understand the LaFleur offense understand why.
Watson is the exact type of receiver that LaFleur’s offensive scheme thrives under. There is a noticeable difference in the flow with Watson on the field versus if he is not. Even with injury history aside, his presence is that valuable to what the team wants to achieve.
With the departure of Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, there is no longer too many receivers to spread the ball to. The Packers receiving room became both a blessing and a curse. Of course, everyone wants all the talent they can get for receivers. However, this limited the team to establish a true offensive identity.
By signing Jayden Reed and Christian Watson, this signals a shift and shows they believe that Reed and Watson are the engine that keeps the offense running. The Packers’ receiving core is now set in Reed, Watson, and Matthew Golden.
This will allow Jordan Love to build confidence and connection with each receiver heading into the season.
Since the addition of Josh Jacobs, it is clear LaFleur has wanted to be a run first team. With Jacobs recent legal issues, there will be a pivot. Love thrives in the short intermediate passing game to open up big explosive passes, especially to Watson.
Tucker Kraft will also be up for an extension. Kraft was on his way to an All-Pro level type of season before tearing his ACL. The offense needs Kraft on the field for his talent. However, he is invaluable for his leadership and fiery attitude.
Overall, the Packers offense has no choice but to look different this season. If we continue to see LaFleur’s trust in Love grow, the offense can finally rise to its full potential.
