If you play fantasy football, you are well aware of the fact that one of the hottest free agent pick ups in fantasy football this week was Packers tight end Robert Tonyan. How keep he not be after his week 4 performance.

Tonyan is Green Bay’s version of George Kittle of San Francisco. This past offseason Tonyan worked out with Kittle and were roommates. Tonyan soaked up everything from Kittle and the friendship between the two good be just want Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense needs.

Tonyan is a major reason why the Packers are 4-0 this season. He has scored a touchdown in each of the last 3 games and has five touchdowns on the season. He is able to spread the field and open up the middle, forcing the defense to take away pressure from Adams on the outside and Jones out of the backfield.

Granted, he was effective in the first three games of the seasons, week four on Monday Night Football was his coming out party. He caught six passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns. It was a career night for him.

One stat that I found crazy interesting and that stood out to me from Packers.com, was the fact that Tonyan is the first Packers tight end in the Super Bowl era to score five touchdowns through the first four games of the season. Just incredible knowing the Packers past tight ends and quarterbacks.

Granted, last week he was not playing a tough defense as the Falcons have a boarderline bad to average defense. He was able to just carve up the defense while the Packers offense were without their top two receiving targets in Lazard and Adams.

Once Adams returns next week, that will open things up for Tonyan as well. Adams will take some of the defensive pressure, leaving Tonyan in favorable matchups down the middle of the field. Now, just imagine when both Adams and Lazard are healthy, Jones out of the backfield, Tonyan will be open and loosening things up in the middle, this Packers offense will be unstoppable.

As they have in the past three weeks, I fully expect to see an increase in targets and opportunities for Tonyan. They should continue to be trending upward. He will also be a red zone target for Rodgers. Tonyan looks to be an integral part of the Packers offense and should be a top target for awhile. The Packers offense continues to look even more explosive each week.
