Players to Watch

QB Jordan Love

Love figures to play extensively in the Packers preseason finale today. After missing last week’s game against the Jets due to injury, the coaching staff will want a long look at their 2nd year, 1st round Quarterback. On Friday, Green Bay released QB Jake Dolegala, which signals that Love is healthy and ready to go. As much as expectations and analysis should be tempered for a player participating in his 2nd ever NFL game, Love’s return is highly anticipated.

WR Malik Taylor

Taylor, who had 5 receptions for the Packers in 2020, is competing for a spot on the 53 man roster. He’s had an impressive preseason, notably last weekend where he had 4 catches for 66 yards on 5 targets. A couple of those receptions were down the field passes that required a high level of body control, which Taylor executed. The Packers released WR Devin Funchess earlier this week, which increases Taylor’s chances of making the team, especially considering that he willingly contributes on special teams.

G Lucas Patrick

Lucas Patrick was a Green Bay Packers starting offensive lineman in 2020 and did a fine job. This year during the preseason, he has added competition and hasn’t performed up to his standard of play. He’s competing with fellow offensive lineman Royce Newman, Ben Braden and Jon Runyan for playing time and a potential spot on the roster.

DE’s Tyler Lancaster and Jack Heflin

Lancaster has been a steady contributor on the Packers defensive line since 2018. The 26 year old, Northwestern Alumni re-signed with Green Bay on a 1 year deal this offseason. With that said, roster spots are tight and DE Jack Heflin, an undrafted rookie, has impressed Packers coaches this August. While Lancaster remains the front-runner to make the team over Heflin, Saturday’s game has the potential to finalize a decision one way or another, depending on how both players perform. It’s possible the Packers keep both guys.

ILB Oren Burks

Burks, a 3rd round selection by the Packers in 2018, heads into his 4th NFL season. He’s been a key contributor on special teams during his time with the Packers. However, he looks to elevate his game on defense, especially after the Packers released 2020 5th round pick Kamal Martin, another inside backer. Burks is likely to make the 53 man roster, due to his longevity with Green Bay, special teams contributions and depth he provides at middle linebacker. With that said, it would be great to see him have a performance similar to Week 1 of the preseason, where he graded highly on defense and made a number of positive plays.

CB Eric Stokes

The Packers 1st round pick in the 2021 draft is a lock to make the team. However, it would still be awesome to see a solid performance from Stokes. It’s still to be determined how much Stokes plays in the regular season but a good showing in the Packers final preseason game would be encouraging to see.
