Green Bay Packers Podcaster / YouTuber Andy Herman, is hands down the most consistent creator I know of. I decided to put his picture where it belongs, alongside the definition of diligence. Every major content creator I’ve spoken to echoes similar praises.

Aaron Nagler had this to say about Andy’s consistency when I asked him recently about The Podfather’s ability to post on a daily basis.

I recently had the privelege of chatting with the Pack-A-Day podcast creator. Here’s some insight into his journey, and what makes him tick.

Green Bay Born And Raised

Andrew Herman grew up in Green Bay, WI along with his sister and a few extended family members. LIke the rest of us Wisconsinites, he was born into the greatest sports tradition in the world, the Green Bay Packers.

After graduating high school Andy went on to attend college at UW-Oshkosh where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree. Outside of the classroom, Andy coached JV and Varsity Boys Soccer at Kauakana High School from 2004 to 2006.

After UW, Andy made his way to Madison for a few years before eventually finding his way back home to the Green Bay area.

Into The Packerverse

Over the next few years Andy would go on to do what many of us creative folk do. Hold down a 9 to 5 while pursuing a passion.

ME: I know that you’ve worked alongside Cheesehead TV in the past. I love your segments with Aaron Nagler. How did your relationship with that outlet come about?

Andy Herman

ANDY: The sort of origin story with me in general is very much intertwined with Cheeshead TV in a pretty significant way.

I had done my own little Sconniesports.com blog that like 3 people read. I sort of parlayed that in some capacity into a very small writing gig for TitletownSoundOff.com

I then sort of parlayed that with being on Twitter and doing some deep dives like I do now. I did one on James Jones when the Packers re-signed him. That gave me a little bit of a following, you know, Nagler had followed me by that point, and had seen some of my work.

Then there was a game Packers vs Chiefs (Sept. 28th, 2015) where Rodgers threw 5 touchdowns…

Aaron Rodgers Highlights (Week 3) | Chiefs vs. Packers | NFL

PFF had graded him with a negative grade. It was 5 TD’s, no picks, and they gave him a negative grade for the game. One of the things I would do at Sconnie Sports was I would go through every play and grade the players in a very PFF style.

So I went to Cheesehead TV, because it was a huge topic at the time, and said, “Hey would you mind if I did a guest article on your website and talk about how PFF got it right, or that PFF got it wrong?”

They were like “Yeah we love this, it’s great,” and I worked with Jersey Al. They posted it,the article did well and was well received and that was it for a while. I left Titletown Sound Off for a while and did some scouting school stuff.

Gotta Take A Look At The Tape

Watching Andy’s content it’s very easy to see how much he loves taking part in that age ol’ past time we hear Matt say at every presser.

ME: I didn’t realize that there were scout schools!

ANDY: Yeah, there were three different scouting courses you could take. One is through the Scouting Academy, the full course on NFL scouting. There’s another through Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), and there used to be one through National Football Post (NFP) which was kind of an NFL scout school led by Greg Gabriel, former Chicago Bears scout.

So I did that one through NFP and then I did the one through SMWW, which that one at that time was run by Mark Dominik former GM of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Clearly, Mark’s mindset bore fruit via the content that Andy Herman creates.

A More Significant Way

ANDY: So in 2017 I saw that Cheesehead TV was looking for writers. I had probably been out of writing for about 8 or 9 months at that point. I reached out to Jersey Al and asked if he remembered me. He said “Yep, we remember you and would love to have you on.”

And that’s when I decided if I was going to do this I was going to do it in a more significant way, I wasn’t just going to do something small.

That’s when I started doing like “Grading The Pack” and deeper dive articles for Cheesehead TV which led to TV spots, which led to weekly radio spots with Marques Eversoll. That all led to writing for Packer Report and getting credentialed.

So they (Cheesehead TV) were really kind of the launching point. I’ve just kept that relationship with them. Even when I went to Packer Report I still continued to do the podcast uploading every day on Cheesehead TV. Aaron Nagler and I actually just talked too, and we’re going to try to do more stuff this upcoming season.

Across The Packerverse

Andy certainly went big diversifying his platform across the above mentioned outlets.

Here’s a guest spot Andy did just four days before this article was released with Marques Eversoll.

Pack-A-Day Podcast Is Born

ME: I saw an interview that you did back in June of 2022 with Spectrum News in Green Bay. You told them in that piece that you initially didn’t even want to to start your podcast. Can you walk me through that process?

ANDY: I didn’t have a ton of interest in adding more to my plate and doing more work and starting a podcast and you know everything that would go into it.

But I was also starting to recognize that I was starting to gain a bit more of a voice inside the Packersphere. Anyone with any sort of real voice like that was involved in podcasing in some way at that time. So it was kind of in the back of my head of like I should at least keep ideas in mind. If I think of something or hear of something then I would be open to it.

ME: Were there any influences you were drawing from as far as concept or format?

ANDY: There were a couple things. First the The New York Times – The Daily, that was in my head, they do a daily episode, at that time it was five days a week, with a different news story every single day. So I was like, I bet there would be a thirst for Packers content you know, doing it that same sort of way.

Then Last Week Tonight. In the format of you know, hit ’em with a couple of “what’s happened lately” things at the beginning then do a deep dive on a single topic.

Those two things were sort of in my mind of how I would want to structure a show. I still had trepidation on doing it, you know, I had been on ONE podcast in my entire life, never done anything, no equipment, no nothing.

Then one day, the name Pack-A-Day just came to me. As soon as I thought of it I was like “OK, that’s the name of the show, let me reach out to people and see who might be interested in doing this alongside me.

An hour later Andy sent the following Tweet out:

Flooded With Responses

Andy would end up getting over 200 replies from Packers fans ready to lace up their boots and give daily podcasting a shot!

He initially intended to do the Monday episode and have his recruits also put out an episode Tuesday through Friday. Andy ended up being able to put together a team of twenty contributors. Many of whom are still on his team to this day.

And thus, the Pack-A-Day Podcast was born. At the time of writing this article Andy and his crew have released a jaw dropping 2,177 episodes

Bringing Pack-A-Day to Youtube

On September 12th, 2020, Andy created his Pack-A-Day YouTube Channel by releasing the below promo video:

On November 2nd, 2020, Andy released a postgame video after a disappointing Packers loss to the Vikings. This video showcases that infamous pop and keyboard sound intro along with that all too familiar solo shot in front of Bart Starr.

As of today, Andy has nearly 26k subscribers on Youtube. He has uploaded 1,993 videos which have a combined 10.7 million views. Over the years Andy has honed his craft with upgraded cameras and lighting, but the format remains the same.

Here’s his latest video at the time of writing this article.

An Outlet For Packer Fans To Geek Out

I find it extremely refreshing to see somebody giving original takes rather than just regurgitating headlines. Especially with the frequency that Andy Herman releases videos and podcast episodes.

ANDY: Somtimes I think there’s value in taking what the sort of “click bait” material is, and then doing a deep dive on that to sort of throw it on it’s head, you know taking some ridiculous comment that somebody makes and then be like, “Alright, is it true or is false?”. Then break down the grey area of that… I think there is a fun aspect to that.

In the end, it’s just ideas that I come up with off the top of my head you know? I just talk about things that I’d want to know and that I would want to research, and then we do as much of a full analysis as possible.

Andy then told me what I think is at the heart of why die hards like me, and casual fans alike, love his content.

I don’t wanna be Packers 101 or 201 or 301. If you’re a nerdy Packers fan, and you just wanna geek out about some stuff and think about things in different ways, THAT’S what I want to be.

There might be more views and more money, if I did it the other way, that’s not me though, that’s not my voice, that’s not my forte, and I would rather do it this way…”

It’s All Part Of The Process

ME: Do you enjoy doing the research more, or creating the videos?

ANDY: You know, I enjoy talking Packers. That’s my favorite aspect of doing this. I know I’m not having a conversation with anyone, but it’s almost like I’m conversing with the viewer and kinda going back and forth and looking at both sides of things.

Talking about the Packers, and doing that 365 days a year, that’s what I enjoy.

There’s times when it’s a blast to research something, and there’s times where it’s just “OK, let’s get through this” and I just want to be more educated to speak on it. Like, when I go through and do my grades every week I love the hell out of that. I can also then in turn, speak more educatedly about the team. because I’m watching every player on every play.

Same thing with recording, sometimes I come on and am so geeked out about talking about a certain topic and there’s other times where it may not be as tantalizing you know? Maybe it’s a slow day. But I’m still going to do my best to make it interesting. There’s also times you know where it’s like 1 in the morning and I haven’t recorded yet, and I just want to go to bed haha, so you know it just all depends.

I Don’t See Anything Changing

ME: Will you continue to do both YouTube AND Podcasting for the foreseeable future?

ANDY: I don’t see anything changing. Pack-A-Day and all my videos are put out on the audio side except the “members only” videos. So to me they’re two different verticals under the same brand.

The beautiful thing is you know, for the audio side, Blue Wire handles all the ad revenue and everything like that, but on the video side, it’s all independent. So it gives me some flexibility where if someone comes to me to do advertising with me, I can do it on the video side since the audio side is already spoken for.

The synergy is easy enough between them, and I have a great team that puts out episodes every day so that’s not going anywhere, and the video side I’ll continue to do because I enjoy it as well.

So you know there may be some things that change along the way, but for the most part I see these things remaining consistent for as long as I can possibly keep them that way.

Side note, hearing Andy casually refer to his videos as consistent had me like….

Rapid Fire Round

Favorite Summer Activity? Enjoying the warm weather and coaching my son’s soccer team.

Favorite Beverage? Mountain Dew

What’s on your playlist right now? I’ve been listening to Death Cab for Cutie recently.

What podcasts are you listening to? The Low Post, that’s my nerdy basketball podcast that I love. A little bit of The New York Times – The Daily as well.

Any hot food takes? / What’s your death row meal? I don’t really like most fruits and vegetables. Fruits, vegetables, and sauces are not my things usually. Also, Peanut Butter Chex, a very underrated cereal I’ll say that.

Death row meal, the must haves would be: Little Caesar’s crazy bread, cheesey gordita crunch from Taco Bell, chocolate milk, Mountain Dew, and a NY style of pizza in some capacity.

Dream travel destinatinon? I would love to get to one of like the crazy middle of nowhere islands like The Maldives or Bora Bora, but the travel just sounds awful haha. So like if I could teleport there, I would love to go to either, I think they just look like paradise on earth.

Any Packers content creators that are your go to’s? Yeah I would just shout out the whole Pack-A-Day team. The entire team does just incredible work. I get a lot of shine because of the amazing work they do. It’s all good for me to look good, but I try to surround myself with people smarter than me, definitely accomplished that with putting that team together.

People that I read you know, Aaron Nagler, Zach Kruse does such an amazing job for Packers Wire, Dusty Evely‘s work, I think he’s now going to Acme Packing Company, also Justis Mosqueda at Acme Packing. Those are a few that I definitely go out of my way to get their content.

What training camp battles excite you the most? I think offensive line and then Stokes vs Valentine. Those are probably the two that are going to be the most intriguing. Back up QB should be interesting as well.

Packers record prediction? I’ll say 11-6

What game are you looking foward to the most? Packers vs Texans, easily, Stroud vs Love should be a blast, I wish it was a prime time game, but you know what, if it’s noon then it’s noon, I’ll take it.
